because the chipset is limited to 32 bit, you canot run 64 bit os on partically 32/64 bit hardware.

Yet XP64 runs fine on it. The chipset only allows 32 bit memory addressing but it still operates in 64 bit modes just fine.

I agree with your assessment. It looks like Windows sees, and is using all the memory. Maybe a bug in the quicky report of system properties? Maybe they changed the terminology of System Properties. That would roughly reflect what's showing in your last screenshot barring the usual variance from session to session. I'm a little confused tbh. It may be a coincidence that the amount "missing" is what you're using. If they changed the terminology, it's a crappy way to do it. I wouldn't think they make it that potentially confusing, but you never know :^/

Ok, it seems like this was "much ado about nothing". Sorry for wasting everyone's time. This is all new to me so I didn't know what to expect or whether I was interpreting everything correctly.

Some people become obsessed with having "free memory" when in fact, you want Windows to use as much memory as it needs to run the best it can. I think this is a carryover from the old days when people were fighting stingy memory constantly. This is definitely one of those things where you don't need to fix something unless it is really broken. I think Windows 7 does the memory and performance stuff better than any previous version of Windows.
