Walmart is successful because they have the best inventory tracking and planning system in the world, and the volume-based clout to extract below-market prices from suppliers.

They have a history of demanding supply-price reductions from companies who already have standing supply contracts, placing them in the position of either selling at an economic loss, or taking a larger loss by abandoning investment in production facilities created solely to fill walmart order contracts.

But their inventory system and high volume of sales have a lot to do with their success, even without predatory practices.

walmart was very successful long before they started operating with large chinese contracts. china is undoubtedly part of their current successs, however.

i suppose you all saw the news that walmart took a big hit this last quarter?

seems inferior apparel (in comparison to target) and high gas prices (their customers have less disposable income due to the gas prices so don't shop as much) are the likely culprits

They buy in big volumes so the price is lowest then elsewhere, their employees are payed minimum wages. They don't rent buildings like most other retailers so its paid off and every profits they make are theirs to keep. Sell China made products exclusively which means no one can compete, so in a nutshell walmart owns us all?

So what you are saying is if you work for Hucks or some small gocery store or some gas mart, or maybe pizza hut, that you are going to get your health care paid for?

I dont see the difference between walmart and any other store. I went to a super store in Florida and it was the best run store I have ever seen.

Cheapest I could find for Nissan Pathfinder was $80 a tire and nobody around here had the tire in stock (Goodyear, Firestone, Tire World etc) anyway.

Just for the heck of it I called over at Wally World and not only did they have these big tires in stock but only $30 each. :shocked:

Not even a Sale price. Amazing, I know many in here wouldn't have thought of Wally World for tires. The Auto shop only does Oil changes and new Tires.

better prices are to be had closer to me.
i think "good price" is sort of a mix. they do have a great system set up to get things sold.
the fact that you get everything in one store certainly helps. some items on sale, others list price (maybe more. but i doubt more)
the whole made in america thing did use to be a big selling point. not so much any more.
