Why is VIOLENCE acceptable and SEX is not?

violence is acceptable. I know many parents that feel sexual genres are taboo however, it is okay for them to watch violence, play violent video games and act in violent mannerisms.

For some reason an exposed nipple is horrendous compared to someones head being blown off or someone being raped.

I do not understand this...

Many countries show nudity in magazines, tv and newspapers and it appears to receive no "scapegoated" attention...

Here, we make it such that is it sleazy and immoral.

I here also, "I dont want my kids to watch those sex scenes.. but it is okay to watch murder after murder."

A good chunk of the US has had rather puritanical views on sex for a long time, though in my experience they are loudly shouted but lightly practiced. An unbelievable amount of screwing around goes on in even the supposedly most conservative groups. Look at the recent case of that big ultraconservative minister with the huge congregation who was doing meth and having regular sex with a male prostitute.

Violence had been seen as a more acceptable outlet and that is reflected in our various forms of media.

Because it most cases, it's "good guys" killing "bad guys." Even in most games.
It's deemed acceptable because of that.
But with sex, it lacks a warning.
In death you know someone dies.
In sex, you have no idea of what awaits you. It could be harmless fun. Or it could be an STD or having a child at 14 years old.
But when you see it in movies or on TV, it's portrayed as a wonderful and pleasing experience.
But you never see Tom Cruise slip on a condom before screwing the leading lady in his newest film.

OP, you have the entire fracking internet at your fingertips. If you're not seeing enough nudity, that's your problem. It's out there, and it's not hard to find.

If you feel the need to put it where those who prefer not to see it can't possibly avoid it, that's also your problem. Get over yourself.

I think violent sex is the answer! Or was that sexy violence?

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I think he'd referring more to the more traditional forms of media that are subject to content restrictions/oversight as the internet is not.

Popultion control is my guess.

You aren't going to have a kid if you shoot someone with a gun. In fact, you will do the opposite, take someone's away.

If you shoot a girl with you mantool at her pleasure valley, then the govt has to deal with another potential welfare case.

That was fairly obvious. My point is that he can find whatever he's willing to put some effort into looking for, while it's not being shoved in the faces of those who prefer not to see it.

I do think it's kind of ridiculous that Janet's nipple has sparked such an anti nudity issue with the FCC.

OK, my opinion through observation:

The restrictions on sex in mainstream media has far more to do with parents, than any religious right organization.

Due to cultural reasons, parents are very uptight about sexual content when it comes to their children. They, far more than any RR group, have the voting power. Most of these parents are weakly religious and have no connection to any religious PAC.

Just what I've noticed in my 39 years of life.

I see your point but isn't it the same with violence? If I want violence I can find it on the net or watch UFC. But it's not a big deal to have shootings shown on TV.

But that's the whole point. Why do many Americans get outraged the second they see a breast yet are toatally comfortable viewing the most horrible atrocities man can manifest everyday in the paper?

well this might be traumatic to you, but movies, tv, and video games aren't real. human bodies, however, are real bodies, even in the movies

Sex and violence are not equivalent. Which is why they're treated differently in the mainstream.

Yes, but the American people seem to be far more accepting of media with violent undertones than they are of media with sexual undertones.

I agree. I think violence is worse than sex.
