Why is Top Gear USA still on?

It sucks...

The hosts barely have any personality and the dialog seems forced. It hasn't gotten any better, in fact it has probably gotten worse.

Heh - I like the show. I like the personalities and it is very funny at times (drags on at times too). Just consider it a comedy show based around cars more than a car show with comedy and it's not too bad. There have been times when it has literally had my wife rolling on the floor in laughter and she doesn't give two shits about cars.

I didn't realize it was still on. Vi thought Rutledge was fun. Tanner comes off as a bit of a prick...but a really talented driver.

Will have to check it out if I have time.

I love cars and car-related entertainment, but I haven't watched TGUSA since the first few episodes. I don't find any of the hosts interesting individually, nor do they have chemistry I find appealing. Really not my cup of tea.

Take the latest show for example. The guys started out with 30 year old cars and they all seemed to pick cars that Jeremy Clarkson would have picked. Then, when Tanner was getting ready to race through the flags the other two changed the course. I kind of wanted to see how badly he would beat the other two. The rest of the show just had various stupid challenges, although, watching that woman try to sing the German national anthem while being driven around by Tanner in the GT3 was pretty amusing, I just thought the show was pretty weak overall.

I know you've complained about TGUSA several times in the past but you're still watching?

The Walking Dead is still very popular but I think it's a poorly written, terribly acted POS and I haven't watched in several years but I'm not continuously complaining about it. <shrug>

It's on the History Channel - I doubt that it takes much to crack their top 20 rated shows. I'm sure it will die off in a season or two but I'll continue watching until it does.

i like it because they have road trips that drive through America. Makes me want to visit some of those places. It would be a lot cheaper trip than Europe.

I've been jonesing for the Amazon spinoff of the original Top Gear hosted by Clarkson, Hammond and May... so yeah, I watched TGUSA. 😵

Wait, there's a Top Gear USA?

Speaking of which, why isn't Amazon releasing anything with Clarkson, Hammond, and May yet?

Its not as good as Top Gear UK, no doubt, but I'd never advocate for a car show to get canned! I'll take all of them I can get. I like how they drive trucks and do more off roading than the UK guys. Also, kids love the show 🙂

I kinda like the show, it is funny sometimes. But did you hear the sound of that Ferrari?
Awesome. What other show features a badass late model Ferrari?

you don't like it? well, you better keep watching, because that is going to be the level of charisma you'll get in the new BBC version.

come on, frikkin matt leblanc lol.

Watched the first 20 minutes of the season opener where they were driving the Rubicon. I was entertained. Will try to finish the episode when I have some free time.

I want to like it... I really try. I hate the stupid "challenges" with the beaters and end up fast forwarding to where they actually drive/review legitimate cars. Even then, I don't watch much. I much prefer shows like 5th gear and wheeler dealers to even the old UK top gear. The US version of Top Gear is just poor, but those knocking Tanner I have to disagree with. He is the only reason to watch the show (not saying much). He is the only one that seems to have any legitimate knowledge about cars. Sure rutledge can spew trivia-like facts but he comes across as a simple idiot... and Adam has no business being anywhere near this show.

Haha, I actually like the challenges the most. I liked most of the UK Top Gear stuff other than the chat with the celebrity. I would sometimes fast forward through that. The random challenges are what made the show special IMO.

I've tried watching episodes here and there but it was just so cringe-inducing. Its like all the worst aspect of better similar shows (so Top Gear, but also say Mythbusters) and the hosts just have no charisma in the stuff I've seen. They try to force that stereotypical American bravado but it just comes off so phony and irritating.

I don't get Matt LeBlanc either, but Sabine and Chris Harris alone could carry that show. And if the rumors about how Chris Evans is acting is true, I think there could be a good chance that he'll cause a mass exodus before getting fired himself, and then maybe we can get a good low-fi version with Harris and Sabine, and maybe a rotation of other guests. To me that would be ideal. If they can just find a good producer to set things up and handle production duty, and then just capture legitimate car people having fun.

That guy with the purple shoes looks like Eddie Jordan.

That's because it is.

Yeah, but Tanner is the only one who can drive. Maybe they should just make him the US Stig.

He probably already is.

The show is fairly lame but I still watch it because....cars. I will watch almost anything car related because it is a sickness.

If I really want to know how fast a car is on track Randy Pobst over at motor trend is my go to. He's probably forgotten more about driving fast than Tanner Foust will ever know.
