Why is this so cheap?

I can play fear and oblivion great on my EVGA 7600 GTS. I play in either 1024x768 or 1280x1024 and there isnt much frame drops from going up to 1280x1024. The 128 bit memory interface isn't a con when you are comparing it to 6800's. My FX5900xt had a 256 bit memory interface so what?

If you are wanting to play in 1280x1024 or 1024x768 then the 7600 GT's are a great buy. I play F.E.A.R on Max PC and video card which is FSAA 4x in 1024x768 and never slow down a bit.

I could have spent $240.00 on a card that would do the same. If you want 1600x1200 get a 1900xt or 7950gt

Yeah. Especially in that 512-bit memory will not be here anytime soon. 128-bit is more than enough for that card. (A wondrous card, btw) I know this thread isn't about ATI, but it's a shame that R520/R580 is such a marvelous design but it's not scalable. (like, at all) I was looking for an equivalent of 7600GT (in every sense, not just performance) from ATI camp and couldn't find anything that'd satisfy my need. Had ATI offered something like that I'd dare to try CrossFire out. I ended up ordering an X1950XTX.

An x850XT runs on par with or slightly faster than a 7800GS, so yeah it's faster than a 7600GT

The SM issue is way overhyped i've decided, what do you actually lose having a x850xt vs a 7600GT?

thats what i said. but every one here seems to thionk the 7600gt will be faster than a x850xt pe.

persoannly i think low end cards need the 256 bit memory more than high end ones. greater memory bandwidth allows plenty of perks. eg my x800gt (8 pixel pipes but 990 effective memory speed and 256 bit ) can easily do 4xAA in oblivion at 1280x1028 and i lose maybe 2 fps compared to 0xAA. no way a lower memory speed card could do that (and i am talking about foliage area with grass maxed out).

you will always see ATi cards to be faster in online tests as they are done using SM2.0 and nvidia has to do SM3.0. If you use SM2.0 for both then it is fair, else it isn't. Also, with a card like 7600GT you will use SM3.0/HDR in quite a lot of games, so it is definitely prefered.

Even if the 850XT is a tad faster it won't be noticeably faster, so buying it makes no sesne unless you plan to save those few dollars.

Utilizing 128-bit instead of 256-bit is one of the main cost savings for manufacturing this card. 256-bit requires considerably more complicated, and more layers of PCBs.

This card is a Monster, one of the best cards Nvidia ha evers made. It's cheap as hell, and performs great. Takes barely any power to run it too. Amazing card.

7600GTs are about on par from what I understand if not a little faster than the ole 6800GT's of yore. I paid $377 for my 6800GT back around the time I registered, so this is a pretty good deal these days. Still plenty of umph left for gaming if you don't go higher than oh 12x10.

But as it's been pointed out there are other cards that pack more bang for your buck. The X1900XT 256mb is pretty hawt. Both in performance/price and thermal output.

I dunno I have a 7600GT KO that I have been using for a couple months now and play most games at 16x12 and it gets decent (not astronomical) framerates, somewhere in the ball park of 40-50 with all settings cranked... I would say for ~130-140 it is a pretty good buy, needless to say I am upgrading to a 7900GT KO for a little more umph, but thats out of desire as the 7600 does the job fine, it's more of "I want more room" type deal..

Apparently the card in question ($129 one) isn't based on the reference PCB and lacks a DVI port, so one should double check.

He's probably referring to the Woot deal a while back (those "stolen" cards). You're unlikely to be able to buy one at that price for a while, until next round of new GPUs push prices down.
