Why is this computer getting occasional BSODs? How to work-up?

Problem: A 2 year-old computer with brand new OS installation is getting occasional BSODs (avg about once per day or two). The computer is on 24/7, and the BSODs seem to occur independently of whether or not it is being used (we'll just wake to find it had an unexepcted shut-down).

Annoyingly, they seem to happen most frequently when my wife is using the computer or has left her files open on the desktop (there's got to be some corollary to Murphy's about that somewhere :hmm:).

The error screen afterwards says this:

BCCode: 24
BCP1: 00000000001904FB
BCP2: FFFFF8800318C588
BCP3: FFFFF8800318BDF0
BCP4: FFFFF80002A5CB58

There are associated minidump files that I don't know what to do with and an XML file that won't let me open it ("access denied") with notepad. Google searches don't turn up anything revealing. Clicking on "Check for a solution to the problem" makes it think for 10 sec or so, then the message disappears without any further advice.

Any guidance as to the next step is greatly appreciated. :\

Software: It's a new Windows 7 home premium install from an OEM DVD.

Hardware: Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600 (not OC'd), 4 GB RAM, Corsair 620W PSU, NVidia 260 GT, 5 HDs (the OS is installed on a 300 GB Raptor).

Brief research shows that 24 (or 0x00000024) is a NTFS file system problem. Run some diagnostics on the HDD(s).

The other option is Windows 7 is not reliable on installing to older hardware!

I installed Vista on my old pc it worked fine (a purchased upgrade retail from xp 32 bit). I installed 7 and I would get the BSOD now and again and no real reason for it!

I bought a new setup to build and windows 7 64bit is fine! As a postscript I gave my mother the old pc and vista is incredibly reliable on there.

This is down to manufacturers NOT supporting older builds.

Beware.

Go linux or upgrade.

I hope I am wrong and hope it is only a HD issue :)
