Why is there such resentment for upper middle class people (and higher)?

I mean, c'mon. Just because they've got more money than you doesn't mean they should have to pay more than you do proportionally. It might be convient to say "They've got more, so they can give more", but that's not right. That doesn't take care of any of the underlying problems.

I don't have resentment for people who earn their money. Now their snotty kids who think they should drive a brand new car at 16 and everything should be given to them by mommy and daddy is a different story. But that's not really resentment.

it's not about the money. It's about the attitude of some people who think they are better than other people just because they're well off.

The problem is the progressive tax system. Solution is a flat tax.

i dont have a problim with people that have money i have a problim with the tax system. my dad makes ~150K a year and is in the same TAX BRACKET as bill gates. thats just wrong. i realize that the % we pay is nothing compaire to him BUT 1 bracket shouldent span that large a gap. there should be another bracket

or a flat tax

The rich are an easy target which allows people to project blame for their own personal failings and frustrations.

Nothing different from using blacks as an external target. Or Jews, immigrants, you know, 'those Arabs come here and, because they don't pay any taxes, they become millionaires and keep passing their business to family members every seven years.' The boss sleazed her way to the top, its not what you know its who you know, blah blah blah...

I'm not getting 'mine' because someone else is getting it and they're using an unfair advantage over me, I'm not successful because I don't kiss ass or because I'm too honest, blah blah blah.

You know, because there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with the way I'm going about it, there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with my expectations or thinking, there is certainly nothing wrong with me, so its just gotta be that my failings are the fault of someone else. Its just gotta be.

As for the original question...just jealousy, but it isn't helped by the usual immature spoiled teenager. I like the life my family supplied me, but I keep it all within myself...if I'm judgemental, it'll be like anybody else here. Base it on physical looks and intelligence.

There are a lot of good, hard working people in this country that truely earn the money they have. Then there are those that aren't so good and take advantage of other people and screw them over to get to the top. These are the people that I resent. When you take advantage of people to the point were they can't put food into their children's mouths then there is something wrong with the US. Too bad this is becoming more and more common as the middle class disappears. The rich get richer as the poor get poorer.

Our household income is about ~110k. But you know, two kids in college that won't recieve any financial aid, and a grandma to support that ain't very much now.

Well, ideally in this country it should be an honest day's work = honest day's pay. I \grew up in a household with a populist mentality, and some people around me (including my parents) without much education had to work multiple jobs and still struggled. I can't rag on white-collar paper-pushers too much because I'm destined to become one (assuming I graduate from law school), but IMO in the U.S. with a decent education, you are very well compensated for the amount of investment you put in. I'm not saying college and post-grad school is a cakewalk but at least you have a pretty good chance at landing a well-paying job. Relative to other industrialized countries, taxes here aren't that high. I believe there should be a level of income re-distribution to make sure everyone who actually works for a living can enjoy at least a lower middle-class life.
