Why is there only one spiderman?

Ok, so, in the movie, Peter gets bitten by an escaped super spider, and turns into spiderman. Well, that spider is still escaped, and it's going to get hungry again. How come it doesn't keep biting people and turning them into spidermen?

maybe someone stomped on the super spider shortly afterwards.

Well, they discovered it missing, so maybe they recaptured the spider or fumagated the place.

i thought they died or something. they tried to reproduce the effects of spiderman with other people. my brother has a big book on all this. i didn't find it all that interesting.
