I was peeking into the gaming forum and just clicking random threads about games,.. to my surprise, I did not find a single regular poster in this forum posting in the game forum... and I did not find a single regular poster in the game forum posting in this forum. Does this show that those who really spend time gaming (and chatting about them) don't give much of a crap about the pissing contest between Nv and Amd? And those who spend a lot of time in the pissing contest, are actual just the casual passive gamers?

I'm curious as to how many of the peeps in here consider themselves to be a hardcore gamers? or most yall in here just a "weekend warrior" gamers?

1st rule of game fightclub, do not talk about fightclub.
2nd rule, do not post in gaming forum.

I've posted in a few threads there and consider myself a hardcore gamer. I have been a bit less active due to a project and the holidays. I guess I get enough gaming talk from my clan.

is this a callout to the entire video forum? :)

i post sparingly in both forums. its just lately, the video scene sucks since we're all waiting for Fermi, and ever since Dragon Age was released, PC Games forum is getting annoying as well.
i guess it'll pick up again when Mass Effect 2 is released for the PC.

Interesting theory but I'm afraid many gamers are near-blindly loyal to one corporation (what is it like 65-70% market share?). Some are so loyal (to a corporation!) that they seem to associate some part of the corporation with themselves, as if the company succeeding somehow equates to them succeeding in their lives, like fanatics supporting a football team. How anyone could be apparently in love with a corporation is honestly beyond me but I've seen more than enough evidence on every tech forum I use worldwide.

Heya,

Probably because those whom are gaming so hard, are not posting. :p

I love to game. But these days, I game less and less. I find myself starting a new game only to have another new game that I want to try, and sort of lose interest in both. I end up watching movies, writing, or doing some work.

Very best,

All the regular posters here are shills for nv/amd. All the regular posters in the game section are shills for EA/Activision/blizzard. It's bad business to post in the wrong forums; they have to meet their quotas.

Interesting since it appears you have not posted on the PC Gaming forum for over a year. Is this about yourself?

I post more in the video/CPU threads vs. the gaming threads because it is much more interesting. I would rather play a game rather than post about, most of the time, unless there is something worth discussing.

The video forum is more interesting to me (and I would argue many others too) because it is a collection of enthusiasts looking to get the most from their systems, make purchasing decisions, and discuss where the industry is going.

Besides that, some people stick to just one or two areas to post in...

I call shens on your argument here.

People posting on the gaming forums are totally different breed from the guys here.

They are actually far worse over there. Most of them are quite extreme in their views, and often seem to be only a little more mature than children.

The worse of it is that the majority of them steal games and then try to justify it with self serving bullshit. I am done with that forum.

I don't post much in there mainly because if I like a game enough, I sign up for an account at the game maker's forums and talk about it there.

I post in there occasionally. CoDMW2 was a flop for hardcore pc gamers, and that has been one of the few titles lately that many were expecting but it didn't deliver. It seems the selection of great pc games just isn't there lately. There really aren't any new games coming out that are generating any interest, and many people feel happy with the performance of their video cards at this time.
I think many hardware geeks simply like the hardware and the tweaking more than the actual games they play.

I know there are some patiently waiting for the new games Like Battlefield Bad Co etc., but right now as for pc gaming it's kind of a slow time. I for one am tired of my regular games, if I hadn't recently discovered Defense Grid I probably wouldn't have wasted much time on my computer over the holiday.
Give me a great marquee game to make me want to upgrade my system and I'll be happy :)

Gaming drives my PC upgrades. My last two were an AMD 4200+ / nv 7900GTX in early '06 and intel E8400 / ATI 4870 in mid '08.

I don't post enough to be a regular here because as long as I have a card that's "good enough" (which my 4870 still is) I pay less attention to the nv-ATI card wars.

Wow lots of interesting replies! I take it there are several classes of "enthusiasts":

1) those who are mainly interested in getting the latest/fastes hardware, just to have it
2) those who are really hardcore gamers and don't give crap about nv/amd war
3) weekend warrior gamers

Seems like many in the video forum belong to the 3rd class. As for me, I haven't played a single game since Crysis (big disappointment) and Assassin. Kind of sick of the whole PC gaming scene.

(For now, I have decided to stopped PC gaming and bought a moutain bike to go biking again. But man mountain biking can be an expensive hobby though)

Because the real PC gamers don't really care about discussing games on a forum much. There's not much need to unless your having a problem with a game and can't find the solution.

And regular posters here in the video card forum are usually tech enthusiasts also, not just gamers.

While I don't consider myself a regular poster on either forum, they are the two I visit most often on AT (more as a spectator than active poster). If I want to discuss a game, I usually head to the official forums for said games, where news and info is usually up to the minute and whatnot.

No we're just too l33t for the gaming forum :x who talks about games, you play them, if you have a problem you ask here as it's typically a driver/ hardware problem anyway. Who needs them??

I post in both.

There's a lot of paid operatives in the video forum (I'm assuming for both ATI and Nvidia). So you'll see a lot of that, guys who arent into gaming but into video cards to promote them (benchmark only).

I personally have been playing the hell out of Killing Floor. It's awesome. Anyone who can't enjoy murdering millions of zombies to the backdrop of heavy metal music needs help.

When the PC gaming category starts discussing games like Bejeweled 2, I'll be all over it.

You don't need to be a hardcore gamer to fall into the second category, just a moderate gamer who likes their games to look nice. Like many gamers who don't particularly care about a single company I've owned both AMD and Intel processors and NVidia and ATI graphics cards. For the last several years I have been sticking with Intel/Nvidia but I would jump ship on the next upgrade if the grass was greener on the amd/ati side.

The more you upgrade, the worse the need gets. My quad core 4870 rig feels ancient to me... It makes me sad how much money I have and will be putting into this damn hardware hobby.

In fact, it almost means more to me that I CAN run games, more than actually playing them sometimes. They should have help for this...
