Question Why is there no build it yourself?

I have an interesting question in my mind. Why is there no build it yourself stuff when it comes to smartphones, like how there is for desktop PC's?

Size. Trying to assemble these small devices really isn't feasible. Check out project Ara for an attempt that Google have up on.

It's the same reason we don't have many build it yourself laptops.

Not just that - testing and certification with different regulatory bodies would be a nightmare. Many pre-installed apps also require device certification with groups like payment networks.

oh come on i dont think people that would make their own cellphone be worried about payment networks tap and pay features.. would be kind of cool but really the price would be close to the same after your done since its not oging to be popular. Apple cpu samsung screen usbC memory card lulul

Im looking at building my own 3x CA 4g LTE router. looks super annoying yet another project i dont want to do but dont wish to buy mofi 4500 prebuilt one either

You can knock together something with a touch screen and wifi based on a raspberry pi.

What sort of homebrew smartphone were you envisioning building in your shed?

Making smartphones is hard, making good smartphones is incredibly difficult.

Because no one wants a $250 level phone that costs $1000 and breaks into 5 pieces. You simply buy a new $250 phone next year and it's a year better in specs...
