Why is there always a lag before I can open some programs when I first turn my pc on?

i can't open the box to connect to the internet for about 1 min after I turn it on. Same for email. Most other things seem to work fine. Help?

probably some network services are trying to configure them selves, check the event viewer to see if anything is hanging/ lagging or comming up with an error. I had this problem before on my laptop had to disable some random service and it works great now.

Well depending on what OS u have it will vary from this but in XP Pro it is in
control panel >> Administrative tools >> Event viewer >> System.
After you start up go into this and see if there any warnings or erros and see what services is causeing it.

most likely xp is trying to figure out network settings.

I will put money that if you assign a IP address manually your problems will disappear.

Another thing you may want to try to eliminate "automagic" network detection is go into View tab under Folder Options, and turn off "Automatically search for network folders and printers"
