Why is there a positive correlation between atheism and intelligence?

Somewhere I got a picture of my sibs and me in front of the corn palace circa 1969-1970. The mosaics were about the moon landing.

...but I will say, it is rather cool that they change the mosaic every year? every couple of years? I like the old photos of the pre-nazi eras, when it is adorned with swastikas--you know, the traditional symbol of life and purity. There are placards under the photos explaining why the swastikas are there, and the pre-nazi connotation.

Anyone know why?

Atheism is rational, so I have a hard time understanding why the average iq of the population isn't higher since at least one in six Americans have to be atheists. At least eighty five percent of that seventeen percent are closet atheists. So are atheists who have come out of the closet smarter than those who have not?

God is for many people not much different than the gubment.
When the government does nothing, one will blame the government for not taking action.
When the government does something, one will blame the government for taking action.
When one does something wrong, one blames the government.
When one has received freedom of choice, one does something wrong and one blames the government for ones own choice.
When the government asks one to use common sense and use the brain instead of behaving like a brain damaged monkey, one claims the government must not take ones freedom away.
