Why is the RAZR hated so much? I must have read at least 2 or 3 threads today filled with RAZR hating and I'm curious why?

Sure, it doesn't have the juiciest battery and maybe not the best features, but its not contributing to the delinquency of society like myspace, reality tv, or campaign finance reform?

I've had 2 RAZRS, a Treo, an E815, a Nokia, and some other random phones. The RAZR makes call and of the things I need it to do, it does them better than most other phones I've had. I can understand why people might hate the iPod, because it ends up an elitist preppy thing, but I have never encountered such an attitude associated with the RAZR....its just there.

So why the hate?

Make any product common enough and the 1% of the population that hates it will be large enough to get noticed.

ATOT seems to hate every technology product with mass market appeal, like RAZR phones or iPod's. It offends our "elite techno geek" expectations for having cooler gadgets than everyone else, I guess

Not true at all. Anandtech users hate the IPOD for several reasons.

#1. Itunes absolutely and completely blows.
#2. Song transfers are silly. Drag and click is so much easier.
#3. Its made by apple. Not many apple fans here.
#4. When they first came out, Mp3 players with bigger HD's were cheaper. Now they are closer.
#5. Cant change the battery (without breaking warranty). Send the unit in and get a wiped unit back after paying $100.
#6. Whatever other reasons.

And to the OP, when you see 2-3 threads on a certain subject, DONT create another. Offer your input on one already created.

1) RAZRs are trendy. This trendiness increases demand, so the price goes up. They're overpriced
2) iPods are trendy. This trendiness increases demand, so the price goes up. They're overpriced

Did you notice that AT has an entire forum dedicated to getting the best price for all things technological? It's the Hot Deals forum. This is a testament to how much AT users demand the best prices for the best-quality equipment. I don't know jack about the RAZR, but the iPod is way overpriced for what it offers. It's not hard to find a better MP3 palyer for less money.

I hate things that really really suck. RaZrs really really suck because they are aging in technology and the hype is ??. I can understand the iPod hype and I even have one. Sure there might be better products, but only marginally better.

People hate RaZrs because they're overrated POS phones made by Motorola with the worlds worst/slowest OS with aging technolgoy that still costs a fortune.

iPods are hated simply because they are too popoular and they are made by Apple, or whatever random@$$ reasons.

So I see a legit reason to hate razrs, but for ipods, its questionable..

They're way overhyped cuz they are smaller than most bricks they like to call mobile phones?

What aging/slow OS? My Verizon V3m is fast and gets it done faster than any phone I've had to date. Besides, how much faster can punching numbers and hitting GO get?

I still fail to see the hate factor.

For the record, I have an iPod and (as I just said) a RAZR....I love them both. In fact, I was an early adopter of both (had an unlocked RAZR for my at-the-time T-Mobile service as soon as eBay had unlocked ones)....way before there was any trend.

Ahhhh....so its about the latent insecurity and little-penis-syndrome most of my fellow computer geeks have? Now that makes sense......the need to be superior is a compensation.

The original razr that came out on Cingular (or t-mobile) used the same crappy software and technology from the V600.
The V600 was an absolutley horrible phone (I owned one), but then they re-package it into the razr and OMG it's the best thing ever now because it's sooo thin! I've heard too many people say something like "oh I don't mind if it restarts randomly or drops a lot of calls, I like how thin it is." Yeah, it's thin, but it's wider and taller than most phones too.

The nano's screen cracked easily too. Had it happen to a friend.

Apple took care of business on the screen cracking deal, I really doubt anyone was truly and royally hosed because of that.

#1 That's debatable....I will never use anything but iTunes. It's fast, its easy, its straightforward, it manages the file system for me, it has album art with the songs, it automatically takes care of download podcasts, etc etc etc. Why is there any reason to hate iTunes? I guess its a matter of preference.

#2 There are alternatives for that....I think its called Anapod? I can't remember.

#3 Fanboi-ism (or anti thereof) is narrowminded.

#4 Well, as you say, thats in the past.

#5 By the time the battery wears out, its past warranty anyway. Friend of mine replaced his 3rd Gen battery for $20 in 30 minutes.

I was just giving reasons that varied from the ultimatebob's response. Some are old problems or have workaround solutions, but I do believe that most were valid concerns.

I disagree to an extent...it's not about the best prices. It's about getting soemthing that is tailored to your needs, and then tryign to find it for the lowest price possible

Huh? How is drag and click easier than plug in and do nothing?

Not everyone just dumps their entire music collection onto their mp3 player. Even if it does fit.

My iPod is 60gig. I have over 100gigs of music on my hard drive. How is it I am going to be able to move them all again (other than buying a second 60gig ipod)?

The only reason I dislike RAZR is because it's so common. I'm sure I'd think it's a great phone and maybe get one myself if half the people I know didn't already have them. I'd go for something less common but still sleek like an L2.

I don't like the RAZR due to it's insufficient battery life. I had a choice between the A900 (RAZR but for Samsung) or the A920. I chose the A920 because I use my phone often and rely on it as my home phone as well.
