Why is the prices of AMD processors going up on newegg?

Self explanitory by the thread title.

I am just curious because the $3000+ alone has gone up $20 in 2 weeks. It went up $10 overnight.

Maybe because the end of the line of the 3000+ was announced a few days ago, hence they are no longer being manufactred, hence they are becoming rarer and going up in price. It's still the best bang for buck CPU, though only by 5 bucks regarding neweggs prices .. ;)

I figured that was why, but then again you'd figure they'd just want to keep them at a decent price so that more people will buy them because if you use anandtechs price finder for the e4 3200+ it's only 10 more.

What is the difference between the e4 and e3 anyway?

E4 fixes little bugs and errors over E6. Same thing E6 did for E3.

None of them will be able to OC well; pretty much only the original E3's could.

Well, define "well", I guess. E4 is the same stepping as my X2 3800+ and that does 2.6 at 1.4vcore. I could get 2.8 at 1.5 but the extra heat probably isn't worth it. for a single core though, it would be less heat though.

I don't know about that... you may find the E4's do just fine. There are a few other well known OCer's that use the same, so you may be surprised!

So today it went up now $3. (now cost $163.00)

Is it now worth just buying the 3200+ since it's only 3 bucks more. (costs $166.00)

The E4 core is the same core thats in the Opterons, and those get mad OC's, so why wouldn't the A64's do as well?

Crazy! Now they are not listed at all!! No more 3000+ EVER. Maybe a sempron 3000+ for 939? Hope the retail 939 Semprons make their appearance soon.

Edit- the new E4 stepping 3500+ is in at Newegg! Someone buy one and be the guinea pig on OC ability!!

Given that AMD only really makes four chips at a time (512k and 1mb, single core and dual core) they really offer far more variety than they would probably like to.

As a consistent trailing edge buyer, this has burned me a few times; I missed out on the mobile AXPs when they disappeared at the end of the summer (right when I was finally going to pick one up). Now there may be nothing attractive to me as a buyer until s939 sempron, if those ever really materialize.

This fairly sucks for me as I was building a computer and I have VERY limited funds. I already ordered many of the things but now I can't afford the CPU itself.

Another question should I just wait for christmas (i'm still buying it myself) and see what comes out? Or just find somewherelike ebay and get a 3000+ right now?

Buying from newegg is like buying off ebay. Their prices change so often. And it would be nice if they included the qty they have in stock.

Tough call. There are a few 3000's still around, TD has them for $139. The new E4 core should be out very soon, a lot of places are already taking preorders for more than MSRP.
It would be stupid for AMD to just drop that part of the market.

Thats the $64,000 question. The short blurb posted on the Anandtech main page says it's the same core used in the 939 Opterons. Those get some pretty insane overclocks, but without the chips in hand no one knows.
