why is the output so low on this machine?

My work machine is a P2 400 @ 420, 256mb ram, nt 4.0. It only averages 100 blocks a day according to my hostnames on Mika's. Thats almost 1/4 what it should be putting out. Its daily usage consists of about 9 hours of surfing, telnet sessions and pcanywhere sessions. While it gets used fairly heavily when Im there its output should not be that low.

Any ideas as to whats causing this? Theres nothing much in the background to take away cpu power...

Go to the NT4.0 Taskmanager (<CTRl><Alt><Del>) and look at the amount of time spent on individual items to see what has been stealing CPU cycles...:)

I have a pII 400 at work too and it gets about half what it should. I think its just very cluttered with junk and needs a fresh install of windows which does help alot. You could also look for cpu hogging progs and such.

I had just done that before I posted, the only thing that was using cpu besides RC5 was PCA, and thats because I had to connect to it with it. The only odd thing Ive noticed on it is the amount of cpu IE uses, much more than what my two win2k machines use. And actually I just had an idea, my work machine has ie5.5 and my home machines use 5.0 (the default win2k install). Maybe the combination of nt4 and ie are doing it?

I think I might have figured it out, if I scroll up and down quickly with IE it maxes out my CPU. Looks like its time to upgrade IE 5.5 to 5.0, or whatever I can find on a server around here.
