Why is the NBA Eastern Conference such a joke?

Player movement. Don't forget that Shaq and Kobe were both drafted by teams in the Eastern Conference. There are still good teams in the East but unfortunately not as many dominate players. Take Detroit if they had one dominant player (Offensively preferably defensively too) on that team then they would be in the same class as the top teams in the west. Their depth really reminds me of the deep celtic teams. They just dont have an offensive star.

Also a lot of it has to do with the fact all the dominant big men are in the west. The few top level talent that the east has are pg,sg,sf.

westside is the best side.

The west has the Clippers. That makes up for all the mediocre teams back east.

Part of it has to do with the horrible job the management in places like Boston and New York. Those are two traditional powers that have floundered. Who trades for Vin Baker?!? Who pays huge luxury tax for a team that can't even make the playoffs?!?

Then throw in Jerry Krause and the dismantling of a dynasty and you have today's eastern conference.

i think it's just a cycle. lest we forget the celtics dynasty and the bulls dynasty.

now it's the lakers and the fact that all the big men come out west for some reason. i mean, put a tim duncan on the magic & they're in the finals for sure. look at ben wallace. that dude's a JOKE playing center. But he can so get away with it in the east.

did u see their allstar team.....Brad miller starting center!?!?!? AHHAHAHAHHA!!!

even without taking centers into consideration, look at power forwards matchups, all the east has is....Jermaine O'Neill........Pau Gasol??

while the west has CWebb, TD, Dirk, and lest we forget Robert Horry!

but basically it's all just dumb moves by the east teams which has made the NBA the way it is.

Wahahaha.. that reminds me of the other day during the Lakers/Spurs game when Bill Walton was saying how Tim Duncan had such grace and finesse when he was posting up on Horry, saying to the effect that Horry is one of the top 3 defenders in the history of the league. Then his sidekick announcer (forget his name) commented that Horry isn't even the top 3 defenders in this game, not behind Kobe, Shaq, and The Admiral and others. Wahahahahaha! It was priceless listening to Walton swallow his own words. :D

there aren't that many dominant power forwards in the eastern conference. That's why i hope The Mailman jumps to a solid contender in the EAST and dominate. Either that, or he has to jump to the Lakers.

the east sucked even when the michael was earning the bulls 6 rings. take the two times the rockets won. sure, the knicks played em to 7 but the magic got swept! the best team the east could muster (absent michael) was swept! michael's presence just managed to hide how bad the east has sucked for how long

It's just a trend in the NBA. the teams of the west were sooooo sorry in the 90s that they took ton o first round draft picks. and ended up w/ really good stars. (turkey, thought kobe was drafted 4th round by the Lakers?) i mean look at the Warrior's track record, amazing how horrible they are w/ player mgmt.

it sucks that the east is sooo sorry, but in a few, east will get better rooks, and some mgmt may trade for better players, and even out the playing field. until then western conf finals will pretty much be the nba finals.. ah well it's all rigged anyway.

here's another one turkey, why does pistons need another dominating defensive player? is having the def player of the year not enough? but they really do need somone that can score and can carry the team offensively down the stretch. as a Pistons fan, it really sucks to see them struggle to put up a shot in the last 6 mins.. unless they are killing the other team. bring in someone like KG and we'll dominate the east. hoping for mello in the draft :D

Kobe was drafted by the Hornets, then traded for Vlade to the Lakers.

Wha?? The West was sorry during the '90s? Surely you jest. Jordan and Co. may have won some rings, but overall the West was the better conference in the 90s. Can you say Blazers (with Clyde the Glyde :) ), Suns, Jazz, Rockets, and Spurs? In fact, except for Jordan and the Bulls, no other Eastern team has won the NBA Championship since Isaiah and the Pistons beat the Blazers in '90.

edited: forgot the Jazz

it's about $$$. The big markets are in the west except for the Knicks, but their management is just so sorry.

he was also drafted in the first round, 13th pick overall, not the 4th round.

Um. Gasol plays for Memphis. Memphis is in the Western Conf. But nice try pretending you know about the NBA.
