Why is the MSM pushing this meme of Obama having to Compromise?

Obama won the Presidency, won the popular vote by close to 3 million and won the electoral college by probably more than 120 votes. The republicans control half of the Legislative branch. The meme should be the GOP needs to compromise. How are the losers calling the shots?

Edit: I'm not disagreeing with Compromise. It's not a dirty word for me. But the Republicans often behave like terrorists, ready to hold the government and country hostage, Why do we continue to enable them?

That statement sounds like a partisan hack type of statement.

Compromise takes TWO SIDES.
We have Democrats and Republicans (and others.)

THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE some degree of compromise when the two sides disagree. Period, /thread.

Do you not know what it means to compromise? I'll give you an example: I want a 70" LED LCD for Christmas. My wife wants a 50" LED LCD for Christmas. If we got a 70", that doesn't mean she compromised - it means she gave in. Likewise, if we got a 50", we didn't compromise. Instead, we'll get a 60" and both will be happy.

Other ways to compromise, "okay, we'll get the 70" that you prefer, but on this thing that I prefer, we'll get that."

O doesn't have to do anything and let the cuts to the budget take effect and the extended Bush Tax Cuts expire as agreed come Jan 1.

I would say neither really won since there is divided government. It means people don't trust either sided enough to get what they want. Both sides need to compromise. Obama needs to be willing to make real spending cuts and entitlement reform. The GOP needs to be willing to make cuts to military spending and increased revenue. I would prefer tax rates stay the same and to close the loop holes people. Then lower rates and close most loop holes on the business side.

I still think we are going over the fiscal cliff which is the best thing long term for this country. It might cause short term pain but is the only way to force a balanced approach to the problem. Since neither side will give up on their spending.

Yes go with that. That will end well for democrats in 2014. If The republicans are willing to meet halfway and Obama does nothing. Kiss the senate good bye in 2014.

I'm not arguing against Compromise. We have divided Goverment, but we just had an election on ideas Obama won them. Yes, he's going to have to be realistic. But it should be a 70/30 compromise rather than Obama have to come in saying, that all the things I just spoke about and a majority of the country elected me to accomplish I'm going to compromise because the GOP owns 1/2 of one part of the government.

Because the winner always approaches the losers and says "hey, let's compromise."* It doesn't matter that Obama won on what was already a compromise platform. He needs to compromise more until Republicans get everything they want. Otherwise it's socialism.

*Unless the winner is Republican, then they have a mandate.

I think liberals have this false sense of what actually happened on Tuesday night. There was no mandate, the american people didnt vote for or against liberal or conservative ideas. They voted for the status quo. Meaning the american people want a divided govt and want them to figure it out. We have pretty much the same basic makeup of govt we had on Nov 5th. It doesnt get more status quo than that.

You think the media will portray it that way?

If they go halfway and Obama does not, the headlines will be "GOP mugged Santa, holding up your presents for the super rich!".

So you think raising taxes on the middle class and poor and torpedoing the economy will be good for the Democrats come 2014?

Similar to the recall election for governor that you were crowing about.:D

Obama is going to have to convince the House to work with him.
Otherwise the same that has existed for the past two years will exist for the next two.

And a meltdown will not be good for the economy.

Oh look who came out of the woodwork after being embarassed last summer lmao. What guts you have to stick it out on this msgboard after your failure in WI.

If you believe this is a mandate you have little hope. But what can I say you havent already proven before? It was a mandate when you said the people of WI will toss out your gov according to you. So your opinion on what is and isnt a mandate does not have a good track record.

There is a possibility of that. But I think if Obama literally didnt budge while republicans were willing to meet halfway. Democrats would suffer. And the people making the biggest complaints would be house and senate democrats up for re-election in 2014. They dont want to lose their jobs and would throw Obama under the bus to do it imo. Obama is a lame duck president out of the gate. Democrats dont want to fuck it up by siding on him if he makes ridiculously stupid decisions.

Everyone should come to the table with an Open mind. But remember when u come to that table, look at the seal on that table and the man sitting at the head of the table. We just had an election where one man ran on a balanced approach to deficit reduction, ran on tax increases on the higher earnings, etc. That man won. Respect the American people and that election.

The problem is that's not what we have to worry about. The Republicans since Obama took office have been clear that their intent was to obstruct and have made statements about being completely unwilling to compromise. It's not Obama and the Democrats we have to worry about being unwilling to meet half way. It's the GOP we have to worry about being completely unwilling to budge. Obama won pretty handily and the GOP lost seats in both the House and Senate, I think we have our mandate of who the people want to make the decisions.

Why would he have to convince the house to work with him when this Election was clearly a mandate? If I was Boner, I would be worried about my job security.

I had to assume it was out of sheer embarassment you stopped coming here until after Obama won. Your proclaimations on that recall election were epic given its outcome. What was the reason you disappeared until the coast was clear if it wasnt embarassment?
