I just about always use speakers but when I use headphones the volume is very loud. I usually have my overall volume and wave volume at about 80% and adjust my speakers accordingly. However when I plug in the headphones, the volume at that is much to loud. To have it down to a reasonable level, I have to have both of those controls at about 10%. Is it suppose to be like that or is there some headphone volume control?

it's supposed to be like that. Unless your soundcard has a seperate headphone jack (in which case it will regulate the volume) you usually have to use the line out jack which simply feeds out whatever it gets told to raw and unfiltered. Headphones with a volume control on them could be a good choice if you plan to use them alot.

I have the same problem as well, is there a solution to this at all? I am looking for a breakout box type device with inputs and a volume control so I can plug either my speakers in or my headphones in them. I wish my ACS33's had a headphone jack...

What I did is I bought a multi jack adapter. It plugs into the line out of the SB and has 4 jacks on the other end. The length is about 4 feet which is just enough to place in front of the desk. From here I connect my speakers and headphones as I wish. I do not use the spkr out of the SB cause it's too loud for the headphones. But with just the line out I can always turn up my speakers when I want to and just have the right level for my headphones.

I know it's not a solution for all, but I got a Hercules Gametheater. For those of you not familiar with this soundcard, It comes with an external box that can sit on your desk with all the controls a sound fan can dream of (including a volume control on the box). It also has 4 usb ports for anyone running a usb mouse/gamevoice/joystick/keyboard etc; No more trying to game at the end of a mouse cord:) I really love mine. Kind of pricey, I think I got mine from newegg for 130 dollars, but it's sooo neat!

Your headphones must not have much impedence. Get a pair of Sennheiser 580's and I guarantee you that it won't be too loud when your volume is set at 80% :D
