Why is the 9700 pro not a produced card anymore?

I can't find anyone who sells it anymore, and it doesn't seem to have the PR of any other card before, or after it. What gives? I am using the 9700 pro and I love it, but ever since the problem I had with the CAT 3.8 drivers, I've had problems with it. It doesn't shut down anymore, but it still seems to lag often when playing games it never used too. It just doesn't seem right so I would like to replace it with another, but they are virtually non-existent.

They're still around, but since they've been replaced by another model, they're just alot harder to find. Newegg has a retail Powercolor model just under $200, but they also have the Sapphire 9800pro for only $15 more shipped, and retail only $10 more than that, so most folks would probably lean toward the 9800pro at those prices.

They are getting more and more scarce since ATI replaced it with the 9800pro. Just pick one of those up. You can get them for $199 at CompUSA after rebate.

I agree just get a 9700 pro if you want to replace it... you might as well upgrade a little bit instead of buying the same thing again

I think that ATI is wanting to maintain a good profit margin and the 9600xt is much cheaper to produce than the 9700pro. The 9800pro probably does not cost much more than the 9700 to produce. So now that 9700 prices are down - they will disapear. ATI has done very well this year because they have been able to sell with a good profit margin.

Probably no more R300 chips to make the cards with. Just grab a Sapphire 9800 Pro OEM for $215 @ NewEgg.
