I for one enjoy soccer quite a bit. Played through high school, and I still play the occasional pickup game. BTW, I was born and raised in the US. I also played football and baseball through high school as well. People don't understand the complexity of soccer, and how much more skill it takes than just "kicking a ball". Anyone who claims it's an easy sport, I challenge you to kick a ball from 20 yards (just outside of the keepers box) and put it in a goal 8' high x 24' wide being guarded by someone who has a much better angle on the ball than you do on the goal. Then come back and let me know how easy it is.

I think its because soccer actually requires more thinking then for instance baseball or football wich frankly consist of pretty much the same crap over and over again. Not a single soccer game is the same its much like chess. And really why is it not popular? Well probably because mericans want to be different from the world by making up they own sports and everything else.

I got a line and a half through this drivel before my head started hurting and I stopped reading. You're doing soccer no favor by endorsing it. Learn to punctuate.

I don't like watching soccer... but then I don't much like watching most sports aside from baseball. I don't like playing soccer either, however, which I can't say about any other sport.

I was friends with someone who followed & watched soccer religiously - he would always say stuff like how interesting it really is, you've got to look at their footwork, passing abilities, etc. Basically what I gathered is you've got to have an appreciation for the fine points of the game to appreciate it on the whole.

It's like if you don't understand strategies in pitch selections in baseball, you're probably not going to like watching a game on t.v. Same deal.

It's not hate, it's pity that you're afflicted with what we like to call "transrectal cranium syndrome" :p

Oh I've played and it was comparable to running a marathon.

And it's nothing like basketball.

In basketball you see, people actually score, adn they score OFTEN. How many goals are scored in an average soccer game? Like 2? It's boring as heck.

In basketball people are always scoring and there is a smaller court, meaning more action.

Soccer is a dreadful sport.

Look, the fact that soccer is a fun game to play doesn't mean it's a fun game to watch. It's boring as hell to watch, especially on TV, that's why it isn' a popular spectator sport in the US. I've played soccer, I liked playing soccer, but I don't find it interesting to watch. I find darts fun to play too, but I don't want to watch it on TV.

I had a friend that I grew up with who's parent's were from England. Her Dad was a well known local soccer coach, the entire familiy was very into soccer. She played soccer from the time she was like 5 until she graduated high school. She loved playing soccer. But, she would not watch soccer on TV because she thought it was boring as hell to watch.

That's a pretty good list!! Tether Ball...I love it! Perhaps instead of ball I should have said "some sort of object."

I don't like it because it's wimpy. Give me a sport with action! Soccer is not entertaining, it?s too slow. They have to be on the field for hours, so they are not sprinting. Sure it takes stamina and skill but that doesn't make it entertaining. I also think soccer players are just pansies (Same goes for basketball).

With running time there is no drama in the game.

Its got to be one of most fundamental sports that almost anyone can play.

The question is why is it at high school that it doesn't become popular anymore? No money No glory?
Probably because it's the easiest and cheapest sport for parents to get their children into.
Most other sports cost a bundle for equipment and typically require more skill than the ability to run and kick a ball. It's also an easy way to get your children to exercise on a regular basis.

i BET YOU HAVE BAD EYE-FEET COORDINATION, YES YOU PROBABLY SUCK IN SOCCER SO YOU HAVE TO LAMBAST IT.

'Cause Americans are too fat to appreciate the sport. And as someone mentioned, no time out.

Because America is so capitalist: no company would sponsor a 90-minute game without TV commercial interruption!
