Why is road rage such a problem?

Just wondering. I get pissed off by aggressive drivers sometimes, but not as much as many people I have noticed. A lot of people I know just turn into some sort of demon whenever somebody pulls into their lane too close in front of them. Whats the big deal? Why are we in such a hurry that any body who causes us to use the brake pedal becomes an outlet for our wrath?

What's really annoyed me lately is people who leave 3 car lengths between their car and the car in front of them when STOPPED in traffic. Move up for crying out loud!

Hey, if you can think of a better time to change my babies diaper while driving, I'd love to hear it.

It's just an outlet for their daily frustrations, reasonably anonymous way to vent

Because sitting in a little metal box in traffic sucks, and no one wants to do it, yet we design the infrastructure of our country in a way that maximizes time spent sitting in traffic in little metal boxes, so people get pissed off.

I now move over for people in a hurry. After some idiot rear ended me. And I had to go through four months of therapy and buy a new car. I have decided it is better let them run into someone else.

because people want to get whereever they are going in a hurry, they are leaving late from their houses or offices and people get sick of crappy drivers

I hate getting rear ended, happened to me... still have the whiplash flash backs. I do like when people move out of my way and I do the same if there is room when someone tries to ram me.

Very few people in this country know how to drive anymore. It's not so much that people's poor driving pisses me off, more like it scares the crap out of me.

I live on a small road near the dead end of a slightly larger road. There's a small three-way intersection that I drive through to get to my house, I go straight, and have the right-of-way (no yield or light or anything). People turning onto the road have a full stop sign, yet because it's a dead end to their right they assume nobody ever goes down there, and tend to either not stop and just turn, or slow down then turn even with cars coming. If I'm going straight to my house and don't turn on my blinker, indicating I'm going right, people assume that I just don't use my blinkers and pull out right in front of me. In the two years I've been here I've almost hit at least 5 dozen people that way, and because of it every time I go past that intersection I have my foot over the brakes just in case.

IMO people need to be re-tested to get a license every few years, it'd be a pain but it's something that's obviously necessary, seeing how few people actually know the traffic laws and/or follow them.

I am the WORST road rager ever.

But I live in NJ, so....

We get 60% of the ppl who think they are ENTITLED to run the stop sign. Or cut us off. Or not use the blinker. Or make a right turn on red with traffic coming. Or ones that are in the left lane on their cell phones doing 50 miles an hour in a vehicle that is way too big for them and they cannot control properly. People who go from the left lane to the exit ramp in .4 nanoseconds, cause they dont wannt get behind any cars to exit. And ppl who ride the shoulder to cut off cars at the last minute...and them pull an attitude if you dont like it.

And we get the NY'ers... who drive 100 miles an hour on city streets, yet can't seem to get above 45mph in the left lane on the highway and never move over.

I get crazy sometimes. But when I am in different parts of the country, I don't seem to have a problem.

A lot of people drive aggressively to keep from getting bored. Sure they can get there safe and sound and just a few minutes behind, but there's no fun in that. Driving needs to be fun and challenging for some people.

The absolute worst are people who use their horns for something other than to warn people of impending danger (or simply to wake someone up who's daydreaming). I think the "getting brave just because they're behind the wheel" statement applies here.

Because as traffic gets worse, the actions of others have an increasing effect on our lives. We already feel hopeless enough driving in thick traffic, and when somebody steals precious moments from us--moments already lost in spades because of the thick traffic--we finally have a justifiable outlet for our rage that's been pent up the entire drive. Almost invariably I am more angry at inattention than aggression. As long as somebody doesn't cut me off to the point of severe danger, I will not worry because I know they want to be somewhere and they're annoyed at the heavy traffic, understandable. However, if somebody costs me a light or something like that because they are too laizzes faire, well that fvcking pisses me off.

Driving sucks and it's always going to suck. There will always be people cutting you off, crashing into you or just acting like 'fvcktards'.

So what's the point of getting angry over it? It hurts yourself at the very least.

Does wanting people to crash or die because they're going 5 miles slower than you on the left lane or if they're stopping early tell you something?

What's even funnier is that as soon as the driver gets out of the car, they start strolling like they're on the beach, taking their sweet time and noone seems to get annoyed.

For those who get road rage, start driving like a prick yourself and then you'll hate the other pricks less, because you'll know you're one of them.

Yeah, like those filthy pricks who themselves go to Wal-Mart and have the nerve to get pissed about parking ;)

I think that's how I manage.
