Why is it considered socially acceptable to be racist towards white people? Yes, this is stemming from that other thread, and no, I'm not saying whites are more discriminated against than minorities. However, if a black man makes fun of a white man for being white, that's fine, he can call me a cracker or whatever he wants. But were I to do something equivalent to him, I'm a horrible racist. What would happen if I started WET(white entertainment television)? I'd be a horrible racist. Why is affirmative action ok? If I have equal skills/experience as a minority, why is it ok for them to get the job over me? If I have BETTER grades than a minority, why is it ok for them to be accepted into a better university? That is the OPPOSITE of equal opportunity. The year I graduated, the #1-4 students in my class were all rejected from Penn. #5, of Indian descent, was accepted at Harvard. He said himself it was because of his race. Doesn't anyone see this as being racist?

Oh yeah, because whites weren't slaves for several hundred years in this country, and then later discriminated against and segregated, unable to have full rights and opportunities as Americans. It's been only a few years since this stuff ended. Is this fair? Hell no. LIFE ISN'T FAIR, GET USED TO IT. Over time things will even out.

Pretty simple explanation when you think about it.

Considering the topic of your thread is "who is the most discriminated against" and mine is "why is racism against whites acceptable", they are separate discussions on similar subjects.

Why does it matter to me that my ancestors were slave owners and racists? Why does it matter to minorities that their ancestors were slaves? I didn't do anything to them.
 
I don't buy the whole race-card that the "minorities" play. Recall the dialogue with the Wendy's worker.

Him: "You want me to get your burger now? It feel good for a n****r to get your sh|t, Massuh? Is it because I'm BLACK?"
Me: "No, it's because you're wearing the shirt, the hat, and the little f***ing nametag, now get me my burger, asshole!"

because whites are in a fairly secure position, a little "discrimination" doesn't hurt and things like aa as i understand it evens things out a little.

That's a pretty silly explanation seeing as how the Chinese were practically enslaved and probably discriminated against more than any other group in the 20th century, yet see no benefits of AA today.

You asked so many questions that don't have a single answer.

However, I will answer you thread title. It isn't as big as a deal when whites are discriminated against because blacks/minorities very rarely have any position of power to actually do anything. I will make this clear for those that have difficulty reading. NO POWER.

Boo f*ckin hoo, you got called a name. Now what are they going to do?

Are they going to deny you a job? Nope, because they aren't management.

Are politicians going to restrict your rights? Nope, because there aren't any minority politicians.
Affirmative action? Yeah, the 5% or whatever minority politicians are the ones that put that in, uh huh.

When was the last time white people were rounded up and were accused of being terrorists? Oh right, that only happens to Japanese, Jews, and people that look Middle Eastern.

WET? Uh, thats everyday television. Oh yeah, I'm sure the 1 black guy that plays an extra counts.

And as far as I know, Indians aren't considered minorities when it comes to education.

Wow, you were rounded up as an reaction to Columbine? Last I knew the blame was placed on violent video games, anger problems, bad parenting, etc. Never knew it was because you were white. I'm sorry.

Were you placed in jail for several months? Without contact with family or lawyers? How about being forced to leave your home and give up all your possesions? Were you deported also? I want to hear all the juciy details on what happened to you or someone you know after school shootings such as Columbine.

I made a post on it, but not a thread. It was in a <shocker> racism thread </shocker> but I have no idea what search terms would bring it up though. Tallgeese (IIRC) had paraphrased me in his sig for awhile on it though.

Very true. I need to flesh out my argument a bit more🙂 I'm sure there will be more holes to call me on.

Asians aren't nearly as large a segment of the American population, so they aren't on RADAR for racism as much.

I think what separates blacks is the fact that they were BY LAW slaves, and laws later on in US history like Jim Crowe were designed to discriminate against them. This in itself is a "trauma" that African Americans rely upon to demand better treatment. Only time will heal these wounds.

The media and media stars such as Al Sharpton have a HUGE part to do with it too. Power and wealth, ratings, etc. are created for these people by perpetuating the myth that things aren't any better for blacks, and convince people to BELIEVE this.

Perceived racism against blacks has become a part of the American fabric, truly. Blacks and whites have segregated themselves into communities mostly, so these things perpetuate themselves. Some inequities do still exist...NYPD still arrest and assail black males faster than whites, cabs won't stop for black males, etc. All this adds up to real incidents of racism and inequity, but not representative of society as a whole.

Again, I think only time and the sharing of information will heal these "wounds."

less posting and more reading will give you the answer no matter what nationality you are. otherwise, it doesn't matter what I post here because forum replies are generally less than 100 words.
 
I always wonder what the Non-American's think when they read such thread. By non-americans I mean those ATers who don't live in the US.
