Why is PS2's analog so bad?

The PS2 controller, overall, is a great controller. But why are the analog control sticks so bad? They are so bad to the point that I can't even use them, I have to use the digital pad, which doesn't have to accuracy of a good analog stick.
 
Maybe you have a bad controller? I prefer the analog of the PS2 pad over the other systems.

I've used several. Its just too loose and doesn't seem as precise as either GC or XBox. Hell I'd use the C-stick on GC over it.
 
Funny, I think the stick on the GC controller is the loosest of them all 🙂
You playing Zelda btw?
 
Strange. I've used all of the analog sticks from the major systems and the stock PS2 one is by far the most responsive and best feeling.

maybe you're just a freak.
 
lol I dunno, all my friends that have PS2 say they like their controller better but don't use the analog cuz its not that great...

no zelda yet, I'm still pissed that Nintendo made it cell shading.
