why is my video card reverting back to 800x600?

EDIT: Now my video card (every time I restart) is going back to 800x600, from 1280x1024. It seems to be doing this almost every time I restart, and even will revert back from 1024x768 if I set it to that...

Clean, and/or replace your GPU fan. If not, possibly a cable may have been obstructing the fan

Nice to see there's another pvd fan.

You're fan is probably dying. Try putting a little oil on it and see if that helps any. You might have to replace it though.

YEAH! PvD rules! Too bad the CD doesn't come out till the 7th here . I got a planned absence to leave school for 2 periods just to pick up this CD.

Anyways, I cleaned everything and remounted the fan! Now my computer is a little louder (though this could just be the sound of clean! ), and the sound is less frequent and less annoying. Actually sounds like it's rubbing against a cable, but I can't see any fan that is, so...

The end result of my cleaning was a success, I'd say! I'll try the oil, and if all else fails i'll get a new fan.
