Why is my system rebooting by itself? Cooling problem???

i have a sempron 2500 w/a volcano cpu fan. the case has a side fan, and fan in the bottom front. (in addition to the powersupply fan, upper rear.)

cpu monitor says it's 109 F when it keep on rebooting. but in the past, the system never rebooted by itself till 114 degrees. (rebooted 4 times today when temp reached 109.)

so why is it rebooting now at a lower temp!?

I'm using WinXP Sp2.
I have Nav 2002 w/latest virus strings. no viruses.

thats an outrageous temperature anyways

time to remove that heatsink ASAP and re-apply AS5 and re-mount the HSF..
don't fool around, unless your mobo's temperature readings are WAAAAY off

109F is only 43C, that's a perfectly fine temperature.

Nothing wrong with 114 F, no matter what kind of chip. My Athlon XP tops out at about 130 F (currently 107), and is 100% stable.

It's possible the power supply is going bad.

Any way it sounds like a virus to me.

Check your bios settings, maybe you set your CPU thermal protection temperature thing too low (mine is at 80C).

i dont think it's that. in the past, it rebooted at 114f, and now at 109f and i didnt make any changes.

power supply bad?! how does heat affect the power supply?

also, just before my machine reboots, i get the blue screen and an exception error. so is it still the powersupply or does this mean CPU?

Those temps are not bad at all, they are quite good, if thats your temps, it's NOT a heat issue. Why not list your full system specs including power supply, that will make it a little easier..and maybe be a little more specific of the blue screen error. Have you run memtest to make sure you don't have a memory issue?

unfortunately, the blue screen and exception error flashes way too quickly for me to read it

yes bsod then quickly to mobo splash screen as if i just turned my machine on

right click on my computer, properties, advanced tab, click on settings under the startup and recovery section, and uncheck automaticly restart.

i have a gf4 4200. i havent updated the video drivers in a year. but why is the driver causing problems now?

does that mean my video card is about to fail?

edit:
i'm assuming nv4_disl.dll is my nvidia driver?

Have you run memtest yet? This really sounds like a memory problem. I would also run CHKDSK on the hard drive, as bad memory can corrupt the hard drive as well.

that is definately memory errors. are you overclocking at all? what are your system specs?
