Why is my system bottlenecking with a Geforce 2 Prophet 64 DDR?

This has been bugging me for the last few weeks. I have a pretty beefed up system and it seems to be bottlenecking or not getting the true proformance out of the card. My friend has a Geforce 2 32 ddr card and he gets about 100 plus more fps than I do. Take MDKII I get about 30 and he gets like 90-190. Here are my system specs:

CPU: AMD T-bird 1gigahertz
MotherBoard: KT7A-Raid
RAM: pc100 128
Monitor: 19" Samsung 900NF
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live Gammers X 5.1

So you can see why i'm sorta up set... Maybe I need more ram. I'm thinking of buying a pc133 512 and through it in there. Please help. Thanks

Heh the funny thing is... I do have a 300 watt power supply. Maybe my system isn't synced up right or something. Maybe the setup is wrong... heh I'm getting frustrated!

Supafreek: A different power supply will not have any effect on the speed of your system. It will only affect the stability.

GeforceJames: Your system should be more than enough to run at those frame rates. Make sure all of the settings are the same on your computer as what your friend has (ie: same resolution, color depth, sound settings, etc.). Also, you do not have anti-aliassing(sp?) on, do you? Also, make sure you have the same drivers from nVidia if you want to compare the systems.

Make sure you're using the OpenGL drivers when you play UT, Quake etc.. D3D is still kinda "iffy" in some games.

Alot of VIA chipset boards have problems with the SB Live series, remove that card and run your benchmark to see if there is a BIG improvement.

Use the 3 in 1 drivers from VIA!!!!! I cannot stress that enough!!!

I think that the ram is the bottleneck. Running at pc100 with only 128 is not enough for the rest of your system. I would go with more and faster ram if i was you.

My anti alising is off. I'll try taking off the sound card, but I don't really think thats the problem or maybe it could, I'll have to try. Ya I feel its the ram that maybe the problem. My friend has at least 256 ram. I think i have the 7.58 drivers from Nvidia. Hopefully I can nipp this thing in the but... because I don't want an Athlon 900, with an OEM board and an OEM card beating mine. LOL thats just sad... Thanks again guys and keep up the brain storming. I appreciate your time and efforts.

I thought that was the point of having all the ram on the vid cards to not rely on system ram to do rendering....

Try a stick of 133 from your friend...heck just use his memory...
Rule that out quickly...

You are running 4x agp? Fast Rewrite on/off?

How comparable are the two systems really? What other diff. from os to drivers?

I believe I'm running 4x AGP. The difference between our systems is that he has a 900 Athlon and pc 100 256 ram and he has a crappy OEM mother board and an OEM Geforce 2 32 DDR card. So I'm completly bauphaled about the whole thing. My system should be hitting high fps. He has the Muse sound card, but still my system should be shreding his. Hrmm... maybe I should look at some items closely. Heh still need some help... this thing is starting to get on my nerves.. I know my system has incredible power it its holding back. It makes me feel bad when I'm using it. LOL

uhm - get a clue...

pc100 vs. pc133 = neglible difference...it's not gonna cost u 50 frames....maybe a couple at 1024x768+ resolutions...

anyway, it's not your PSU, it's not your ram, and it's not anythign to do with "syncing" anything...

what it might be is a lack of an AGP gart driver - have u installed the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers?
what detonator drivers are u using?...try completely uninstalling them (add/remove panel), then install the official 6.50s w/ 2x agp (disable SBA, Fastwrites, etc.)...
then install the latest via 4.29 4-in-1 drivers
use wcpuid or somethign similar and check to see your agp settings (i.e. 1x, 2x, SBA, etc. etc.)...though noen of those settings will really matter...agp 1x vs. 4x is maybe a couple fps difference..

I believe i'm running the 7.58's or something. I was running the 6.50 and it was working a lot smoother. I don't think I have the 4 in 1 drivers installed. Maybe thats the problem... Hrmmm ya I believe I should reinstall the card and the drivers. Must have been setup sloppy. Ok thanks again guys. You've been a big help nortexoid.
