i mean.. jeez... murasame is better than masamune? it aint right.

seriously. it's more responsive, has less memory taken up, and everything... only changes between optimizations are crappyass dell drivers, and windows classic vs XP themes......

Go trip a little old lady in front of a Mack truck and quit posting your drivel, or else post it in the appropriate forum.

Whats the specs on your old one and new one. The man problem with new cheaper dells, gateways, compaq, etc is the ram.

XP themes take a HUGE ammount of processing power, like 35% overhead over classic..

When I install XP, all that garbage is the first to get turned off.

well, old vs new is kinda odd. the new one is the crappy one, the old one is vastly superior.

the crappy one (murasame)

athlon XP 2400+
256 mb crucial 2100
40 gig 2mb cache

good one (masamune)

P4 2.66 ghz
512 mb pc1066 RD RAM
120 gig 2mb cache (but soon to be 8 mb cache)

What is the memory usage, mine is sitting at almost 300MBs being used and I don't have almost anything running. Mcafee, ie, im, thats about it.

Two compaqs I installed at work had 128 in them and they ran very slow. Then I stuck an extra 256 in it and they ran fine, they use so much for their video that they dipped into virtual just to run a normal app.

I don't see that much of a difference between the systems.

in XP Turn off the System Restore feature. i bet that will speed you up significantly.

i was never able to get normal mem usage on the good one below 150 mb.

my crappy one sits regularly at 60-80 mb.

I'm currently at 210mb with only a few things open..

Weatherbug, DU Meter, Norton AV, AIM(2 windows), ICQ, MBM, YIM, Virtual Daemon, Norton Ghost, Eudora, IExplorer(6 windows)....

It will climb to around ~400 after the computer has been up for about a week and I get my normal ammount of IE windows etc open..
