Why is my phone so slow? LG sucks.

yes I did I. I followed a sticky in the xda O3D forum.

I turned it on again 3 minutes ago and got after the LG screen some Cyanogen Mod logo came and was spinning for about a minute and then the phone turned off.

I can't even turn it back on now. It's plugged in so there should be battery.

I kept going back to the spinning.

I used LG mobile tool and got the phone back working. It said their was an icecream sandwich updated but it constantly failed. I read xda and other people get that too.

I lost all my contacts and photos. Yet my apps and email remained when the phone was restored. My rom manager back up is there so I am hoping the photos are in that.

Going to try this again.

The official ICS update won't work if you've flashed a new recovery.

My guess is that you didn't flash/update to the latest bootloaders, which may be necessary to boot properly to CM.

Now it won't even root anymore. Nice.

failed to copy block to data local block: permission denied
unable to chmod data local block: no such file or directory
failed to copy su to data local su: permission denied.

it goes through all the reboots which takes like 10 minutes because my phone reboots so slow.

it says success but it's not rooted. it failed / permission denied on everything.

tried it twice.

spent over 3 hours on this.

recovered the phone 4 times with LG mobile tool.

It still will not root. Permission denied here, failed here, permission died here. Yet it still runs the program and restarts the phone which takes a millenia.

Now I have no contacts, no photos, and still a slow phone.

back to square one... have to go to work in 2 hours.

Rooted again after FACTORY resetting the phone.

Then I had to install rom manager again because it wiped all my apps. Thankfully the backup on SD card saved everything - contacts, texts, photos, etc.

Now I am back at the start. Rooted and ready to try it again.

I get to the spinning Cyanogen mod logo of death and the phone turns off.

second attempt it actually makes it to the welcome screen. When I click the app drawer the phone turns off.

can't turn on the phone without removing the battery and putting it back in.

now frozen at LG screen.

just about to give up on this Cyanogen mod. All this just to see if t will have better battery life and be faster.

The first time you boot your phone up with Cyanogenmod it may take 2-5 minutes.

Question - are you doing a factory reset from recovery before installing Cyanogenmod? The general instructions for installing a ROM are as follows:

In recovery:
1. Factory Data reset
2. Wipe Cache / Dalvik cache
3. Format System
4. Install Zip from Sdcard (Cyanogenmod)
6. Install GApps
7. Success

If you don't wipe/factory reset before installing the .zip it won't boot.

the first time I only pressed Wipe Dalvik cache when ROM MANAGER asked me.

This time I checked them all - make back up, wipe data/cache, wipe dalvik cache.

That should do it. I suppose if it isn't working you could try another ROM from XDA, or perhaps even try installing CM9 (and then try moving to CM10 from there if you want).

phones that are close to asop can run custom roms with upgraded android versions pretty well, many times perfectly.

but most phones ive had, its best to stick with a custom rom that is running the latest ota kernel but tweaked overall by people that have more time the the phone carriers do.

htc sensation is a good example.. it doesn't run the latest jellybean without breaking a few features, but if you run android revolution rom, which is based on the newest htc ota, it is perfectly functional and much MUCH faster then the stock rom.

I can't even repeat the steps I did before. Before I could use LG Mobile Tool to unroot and go back to Gingerbread to try again.

Now I am stuck at Rogers loop screen. Cannot get into recovery, mobile tool doesn't work, removing battery does not help, so?

Looks like the phone is bricked. All that effort and now I don't even have a phone.

probably shouldn't have used rom manager in the first place.

and, I would bet it did not flash the kernel, which is why its boot looping.

It's pretty hard to really brick a phone. Can you get into Download mode? (ie with my phone, boot up while holding home + power up, it's a lower level than recovery)

Is LG Mobile Tool the equivalent of Odin?

My Note II runs AOSP great - Using a 4.2.2 Rom - Fast and Smooth - Everything works - not a single problem - and out benches the latest 4.1.2 Touchwiz rom's too all all benchmarks I've tried.

Depends usually on the phone - Very popular phones will get top notch dev support.

Rom manager was mentioned in the sticky. You don't do flash recovery with it though because that WILL brick the phone guarantee.

Your suppose to use rom manager to backup and to install Cyanogen mod.

Yes I tried Home + Power up and Home + Power up + Power down and Home + Power up + 3d button.

They either don't work, or take me back to LG then Rogers boot loop.

I'm not familiar with what Tools LG has. Also if he did find an equivalent to Odin for Samsung, he would need to have the Actual tar to reflash it completely to stock. This is yet another reason Samsung is better than LG in this regard, you can find almost any Stock Rom out there for any Samsung phone to flash back in download mode Via Odin to unbrick your phone - and it's dead simple to do.

I bought a "Bricked" S III off the classifieds a few months back that was in excellent condition - It wouldn't even turn on to show a bootloop - But download mode worked - Flashed the Tar using Odin - Back up and running, sold and made $250 off the phone.

OP - I always suggest you do some reading and make sure you have a good understanding of what you're doing before you dive in. I'd head over to XDA and get a thread going. Somebody experienced with the phone can probably get you back up and running.

Still can't figure this out. Looks like I am out a couple hundred bucks and have to keep paying for my plan for about 6 more months.

now I have no way of making or receiving calls.

That's really a shame. Nobody should ever be using ROM Mangler for anything. You should always flash a recovery manually (or it should be part of the automated rooting process) and then you boot into the recovery to wipe and flash the rom of your choice.

You should be able to revive using APX mode (Tegra's recovery mode)

The O3D is an OMAP based device, not a Tegra.

not sure what you mean.

If I ever get a new phone ROM Manager will save me because thanks to it it backed up all my photos, text messages, call logs, and settings on my phone. Luckily I saved the zip file before the second round of attempts because now I can't even access the phone SD card.

The guides said use Rom manager but not for flashing.

If it truly is bricked and unrecoverable without special tools, there's still a possibility of recovering it with a usb jig.

What did you have in mind as an eventual replacement?

ROM Mangler is a bad piece of software and should not be used, as you just found out; it mangles things.

You should be using Titanium Backup Pro to backup SMS/MMS, call logs and apps. Never backup or restore system settings, and if you wipe correctly, you don't need to worry about pictures (or store them on the external SD and remove it during flashing).

You should use whatever tool you need to root with (depending on the device this might install a recovery for you), then if needed, manually (or using another PC-based tool) install a recovery. Use the recovery for all backups, restores, wiping and flashing.

According to XDA, to get into recovery, you hold Volume Down and the 3D button, then press and hold Power till the phone vibrates.

BTW, the sticky refers to "Recovery Manager" not ROM Manager". Did you misstype, or did you actually use the wrong piece of software?
