Why is my new LCD making my eyes water?

Hey as I've posted, I love my Viewsonic VP930B but it's making my eyes watery particularly when concentrating on it while game playing. Sometimes I have to shut my eyes and look away for a bit. My eyesight is less then perfect so I sit closer to it then the average person but no closer then I did for my old CRT and that didn't make my eyes water. I have the brightness turned down to about 60 while leaving the contrast at default 70.

Maybe turn down the brightness as low as possible?

Also are you using DVI?

I am wondering would lighting making a difference? I have a torchiere light sitting in front of my computer desk to provide fairly low room lighting but nothing on the computer desk or behind me. Would a different lighting arrangement help?

The VP930b is a VERY bright display. When I was sick I had the same problem with my VP930b...best described as eye PAIN. ;P

Turn down the contrast (white level in most cases) and be sure not to use sRGB mode (aka. superbright).

Add ambient lighting into the mix to avoid subjecting your eyes to too much contrast (no ambient vs. 300 nit emitter).

Your old CRT was around 80-120 nits, depending on the color temperature. Your LCD at those settings is undoubtedly pushing 200 or more. Besides, having contrast above 70% on the VP930b causes grayscale clipping (assuming your RGB levels are also 100%).
