Why is my Linksys cable modem reporting DOCSIS 1.1?

any ideas? i read somewhere that the ISP "pushes firmware" upon the cable modem???? can someone explain this to me? did they just downgrade my modem from 2.0 to 1.1? and is it permanent or only with my current service?

Is your cable service using DOCSIS 2? That's just a guess, I don't know exactly how it works. 😱

Docsis 2.0 is a standard that has not been widely used yet. Comcast still uses Docsis 1.1.

I dont know how it works either. I'm on Mediacom, I think Comcast is a eastcoast provider? I'm in the midwest (iowa).

think of docsis as something simialr to teh modem days when there was v.90, 56Flex...and all that other good stuff. V.90 was only good if your provider supported it. It's the same way with cable...docsis 2.0 is only good if your provider supports it.

not sure on your cable modem model, but most of the new cables coming out on the market are docsis 2.0 ready, but also backwards compatible to docsis 1.1. most cable companies haven't widely deployed docsis 2.0 as there arent a lot of hardware vendors making 2.0 equipment, the equipment is expensive, and is still in trials to see how efficient it works, etc etc.
i wouldn't sweat over this much. wait a year or two and docsis 2.0 should start being implemented on your provider's network.

my hardware is docsis 2.0 ready, but i was worried how linksys called it "ready".. i figured since its reporting 1.1 that linksys was lazy and had sold me docsis 2.0 capable hardware.. but hadn't developed the firmware to enable it yet.

heres my cable modem/switch/wap/router.. this thing is great IMO. its nice to get all the statistics and reports all from my router configuration, including in-depth details on my cable modem, its frequencies and all kinds of stuff i dont understand.
