I have a dell inspiron 9300 with a 1.73s mhz pentium m processor. But it is so SLOWWWW. It is stable though and crashes rarely. Are there any sort of checks I can make to see what the problem is? Autocad and max rendering takes way loner than it should just for the setup, let alone the rendering itself.

Have you done the standard spyware checks with Spybot Search & Destroy, Adaware, and Windows Defender? How about a virus scan? Did this start to happen recently? Have you done anything that may have closed this slow down?

I have run the Mcafee virus software that came with the machine and about once a week I use the adaware software. I am unaware of anything that I have done to cause a huge slow down. It happens mostly when I have large size drawings I am working on.

Which video card did you equip your 9300 with? How much ram do you have? I use a 9300 at work for AutoCAD daily with a PM 1.73GHz, 1 GB DDR, 80 gig 5400 prm HD, and a mobile 6800 Go. The video card is quite important in terms of rendering performance. The other drawback is that most laptops use a slower 5400 prm HD, so disk intensive apps are going to be slower then on a desktop. I don't have any trouble with my 9300 mentioned above, but I do keep it up to date and spyware free. I would also highly suggest downloading and using a program called TuneXP, which can be found at DriverHeaven.net. The rearrange boot file options showed a drastic improvement with long load times for me with CAD. I use it on every system I own.

Is the CPU running at full speed? I've noticed that if you turn off SpeedStep in BIOS, these notebooks will always run at slowest speed, which is 800MHz for a 533MHz FSB Pentium M. Strangely you don't notice much difference in performance on normal tasks.

I have the same specs listed above, 1 gb memory, 80 gig hard drive and the upgraded video card. After starting 3dsmax or AutoCAD then everycomputer function is slow as molasses, even simple functions like browsing a folder. How do I turn off the speedstep in the bios, or more importtantly, how do I access the bios? I will download TuneXP and see what I make of it
