Smuggled a 32MB KyroII out of work (nothing illegal
) to replace my GeForce2MX, and its performing like a proverbial sack of waste. I know 3DMark2001 isn't supposed to give a good idea of the Kyro, but surely at 800 3dmarks in 1024x768x16 it's having a laugh, especially when my 16MB Voodoo3 2000 on a Celeron 433 gets half that...
To make matters worse, very few of my games run properly on it, Unreal has occassional cosmic textures (throbbing colours) and polygon tearing, System Shock 2 plays like being in a disco with all the textures having various shades of yellow and purple daubed on the walls, Euro2001 football (EA) now tells me there is no CD (is this related?) and Expendable and Deus Ex crash before the first levels load in, to name but a few.
Funny enough, American McGee's Alice goes like hot sh*t in 32bpp and dumps on the GF2 I had, but this is the only game that even runs properly.
I even tried overclocking it, only to 180/180, but it caused all sorts of corruption in 3DMark2001 and eventually locked up on shutdown.
If anyone has any ideas what it's playing at, or if maybe a reinstall is in order, help!!! All tests on Win98 OE, all service packs and stuff in, DirectX8.1 (interim build, only way I could get 3DMark to run) and although it's a VideoLogic unit, I've got the latest Hercules Prophet 4500 drivers (7.111) but this hasn't made any difference to the crappy performance.
