Yes, it's a terrible burden having a computer that lame. Send it to my address immediately before you go seeking any more external validation for your PC purchases.

It should, so post your diagnosis please. I'm not all that familiar with your PC confingeration, but plenty of the other people around here are very familiar with that layout and if you post the diagnosis, it takes alot of the guesswork out of helping you. Post the entire mess. If you need instructions, see Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users.

No ******.
Oblivion's really graphics intense, but with that rig, you should be able to run it at medium-high settings. You should check your drivers. Opening up the case and taking a look at the card and it's heat would also help, if any past experiences with overheating might've knocked the thing bad.

you really are obsessed with the diagonses you recommend...

OP, get another gig of ram and see what happens. i'm not sure but is oblivion multi-threaded? a cpu upgrade may be in need.

(just read kmriver's post...i'm basically restating him :p)

I just upgraded my drivers to ForceWare 84.21.. no change. Also i was running it with 512 and now with 1gig... still no difference. i can try overclocking my rig. but i can't imagine that the cpu is the problem... i will check my card temps. .... okay it's about 45C idle (in windows.)

Make sure you have sufficient cooling when you overclock, or your problem'll only get worse (this time, yielding high costs).

run the game and check your memory usage in the task manager and see if it's maxing out. you might need more ram.

Check the Oblilvion threads in the Software section. Some say that more than 1 Gb helps with that game. Seems crazy I know.

Oblivion is just a really graphicaly intense game. Just turn off some settings. How do you think I feel with a 9800XT? I don't even get Bloom lighting!

But that'll all change when I get my 7900Gt's in SLI tommorow if UPS doesn't fvck it up ;)

Also, try the XG 84.25's.

it certainly helps me in bf2. wouldn't surprise me if it helped with oblivion.

I'd go to the Elder Scrolls forums, as there are several threads involving people with problems like yours.

You wouldn't happen to have a X-Fi sound card would you? Quite a few are having issues with it in Oblivion (not to mention tons of games and systems, worst soundcard to date).

Also, try the XG 84.25's.

this is supposed to be a big help w/ ES4 I'd try that first then turn down the grass slider that seems to cause the bigest hits on nvidia cards

All current games now are GPU-bound. A 3200+ should be fine for Oblivion. It's just a really graphically intense game.

Probably CPU limitation. I run 45-60FPS always with GTX and 2800Mhz A64 at 16x10 WS.
