Why is my Hard Drive so "noisy"?

I just bought this Maxtor DiamondMAX 60 30gig Hard Drive and it sure seems noisy. Like everytime I open up a new webpage or what-not I hear the Hard Drive "doin its thing" My old IBM drive did not do this, this does not seem right becuase I have heard people saying that these hard drives are quiet.

Oh yeah, even when I am not doing anything on the comp it will make noises like it is "doing something".

Any suggestions? And sorry for sounding stupid.

I can't say that I have heard that praise about Maxtor.

They're set to "performance". If you want quiet go to "http://www.maxtor.com" and download the utility to set it to "normal" I think...

But I have the exact same drive and I'm used to it. Oh well. That's why my Winamp is open 24/7 playin music. 🙂

I really like my ibm 75gxp 30gb drives. they are quiet and fast...BUT my 80mm delta mother pushing 65cfm makes up for any noise in my system, lol, but it helps me aircool my piii 1.0ghz to 1250!!!

I just thought it was odd, my old IBM 34GXP doesn't make nearly the noises that this hard drive makes.

I know it is going to make noise when transferring files, etc. It just seems odd that it is doing it even when I do something small like open up a new webpage.
