http://www.taisol.com/coolers_amd.html

I have one of these on my motherboard, now my computer is 4 years old, I installed a new 500W PSU and now it won't turn, I installed correctly, so shudn't turn? or is it because the new PSU is powerful enough it doesn't need cooling so it doesn't turn?

Thanks for any help (as you can tell, I suck with computers:()

I'm not trying to install a cooler, I'm just asking do u need one if you have a powerful PSU? Cuz my comp is bout 4 years old, it has this cooler on it that used to turn with my old weak PSU, with this new one it doesn't start up....is there a reason for this?

okay, are you saying the fan on the heatsink?

or a case fan?

"a fan on my motherboard" sounds like a north bridge fan

what are we talking about here?

lol i dont know wut u mean by ''heatsink'', but anyways it looks exactly like the thing in the link but its on the motherboard.

okay, that "thing" in the link is a heatsink with a fan screwed to the top of it, those are made to sit on top of your processor. If that is what it is, it should be turning, no matter what.

If it is like you say, on the motherboard, and NOT on the processor, then it is your Northbridge fan, and it doesn't need to be turning, it should turn on if it gets hot enough for it. It is possible that the new powersupply doesnt push hot air to it, so it doesn't need to turn on.

That looks like a passive northbridge heatsink, which would be on the motherboard itself.

But when I put my hand on it and turn on the comp, it might just be me but it keeps getting hotter and hotter...should I be worried?

Isn't that what a heatsink's supposed to do? If your computer is on and your heatsink is cold, something's probably wrong. If the cooler in question earlier is indeed just for the northbridge, it can probably be run passively cooled if the fan has failed. The fan might simply not have to spin as much, though, if you improved your case airflow in the process of upgrading.

maybe the pins on the molex connector dont line up properly on your CPU fan...

there has to be a simple explanation.. there is no way it's the power supply.

Which heatsink is hot? The one on top of your CPU, or the one on top of your motherboard's NorthBridge?

Dont run your computer until you figure out how to get that cpu fan spinning. You can burn your CPU if it gets too hot. Try unplugging the fan, and plugging it into another connector from your power supply. This assumes that the connector is a 4 pin molex. If it is a 3 pin, connect it to the corresponding place on your motherboard.

It is connected...and worked perfectly before I put in this new PSU, do you think it burned out somehow?
