When I only had 256mb of ram my computer ran faster than now with 512mb.

Is this normal?

98 doesn't really like that much ram, and just for curiosity's sake, are you letting windows decide your page file size or are you setting it?

Windows automatically adjusts your pagefile (swapfile ) size, you can actually adjust it manually to the size that you want.

Do the first fix listed here

Your problem was the very thing that happened to me. This fixes it. I know it says 512 or less, but 512 gives 9x heartburn without the first fix listed. Trust me

Also, your new memory might have a higher CL value or a slower access time rating. If so, this would cause your other stick of memory to slow down to these performance levels as well, slowing the entire system down.

Either that, or the swap file thing previously mentioned.

go to 2k or XP,

98 is getting outdated...plus 2k would love you for it :p

and if u have to keep 98, you could always do a dual boot...
