Why is LSD illegal?

For the record, I have never tried it and I don't want to. I was just reading Wikipedia and followed link after link until I ended up at LSD 😛

It isn't toxic, isn't considered addictive, and doesn't hurt you. It just makes you see things as far as I can tell. Can someone with more knowledge explain it to me? ZaneJohnson?

i'll undoubtedly get flamed for this, but take the reasons weed is illegal and multiply it by ninety nine billion.

That isn't the point here. It's much easier to debate marijuana's legality. I have never seen an advocate for legalizing LSD 😛

A much better question.

I think LSD (never tried it) can make you have a bad trip when you're not feeling the best while taking it. IE monsters appearing, stuff that can make you lash out or hurt someone.

LOL that's one of the best Kenny vs Spenny episodes when Kenny spikes Spenny's orange juice with LSD.

"Isn't harmful" is a very naive statement.

Harm comes in more forms than just physical.

it was made illegal to try to curb the counter culture uprising a few decades ago.

for the idiots replying, MJ was made illegal because of the mexican immigration problem in TX a few decades before that.

Then why is it illegal in Canada?

lsd is not for the noobish.

I never worked up the guts to try it. Heard a few nightmare stories of trips gone crazy. Can a bad trip actually scar you (psychologically) for life?

There are people who never get out of the bad trip. They wind up in mental wards.

I did a LOT of lsd. I can totally understand why it's illegal. You DO NOT want people to have access to this stuff.

Never happened to me, but look at Syd Barret.

On a semi related note, I somewhat bad tripped once. I was really into Pink Floyd at the time, and I somehow convinced myself that I was Syd Barret, gone completely insane and to remain that way for the rest of my life.

I should've listened to myself the first time I said "just go to sleep and everything will be fine in the morning"

LSD is definitely not some newbie shit.

what we saw in the late sixties was actually part of a global movement at the time. Americans for some reason only care about what happened here. It was banned in most countries about the same time for similar reasons.

Not for any normal person.

When the government was doing research on the subject, the doses required to fsck someones mind over were mind boggling. Nobody would ever do that much at once on their own.

There is no logical reason LSD is illegal, just like there is no logical reason marijuana is illegal.

Granted, LSD shouldn't be compared to marijuana, but it is arguably just as safe. It isn't going to kill you. It's not addictive. I've never heard of an LSD junkie. You just don't do that.

It has a strange "hard drug" stigma around it with most people. Many of the same people have no problems with mushrooms, though. Even though LSD is more intense than mushrooms, its certainly in the same vein.

LSD isn't something people do just to get fucked up on a whim, like you can with marijuana or alcohol. It tends to be more planned out and purposeful.

Edit: At least with the people I associate myself with....

I think when you take it just to trip balls, and are not in the right places with the right people.. is when you run into problems.

The thing is that the demand for LSD is so low, that it doesn't even register. When was the last time you heard about an LSD bust, or even someone getting charged with posession?

I think it should be legal. Nothing would change. The people that want to do LSD are going to do it regardless.

heh.

i thought i was ringo starr for a good 6 hours. accent and everything, apparently. point of the story, don't watch the yellow submarine while tripping face.

Hippies, mostly.
I think it should be legal, but not something you can just walk into the store and grab along with a six pack.

Well, after a few solid trips here, I can see WHY it's illegal. I don't necessarily agree with it, but damn does it mess with you pretty hard.
