I hope you are on some sort of DMARD as well?

DMARDs are something physicians don't seem to know well. Of course a rheumatalogist knows, but it's sad seeing an acute flare up of RA being treated with NSAIDs.

Even then DMARDs as a class aren't equally effective. In an acute phase, a TNF inhibitor is vastly superior to something like methotrexate. Docs will too often take the "wait and see" approach to treatment which is the worst thing that can be done. Once tissue is damaged there is no going back. It needs to be hammered hard and fast. After that, then one of the other DMARDs in combination with an NSAID is the way to go.

I have had cough syrup with codeine and that is the only thing that actually works for a bad cough.

I love when I have a nasty cough for that reason (not really though). Wonderful loops + bubble gum flavor = awesome. :D

The problem for me is that I might be somewhat allergic to the active antihistamine ingredient (oxymoron ya'd think?). That shit makes me very loopy quickly, and then "aloof" for days. Same thing with Benadryl....like way more so than other people seem to experience.

The comment is not that any one of us shouldnt at some point need the medicine but that so many seem to have.

Reading through, seems like most (or a very substantial portion) people are relating their experience of vicodin with wisdom teeth. I'd guess the vast majority of people here have had one or more of their wisdom teeth pulled, so it makes sense.

Please heed this warning. I have had a number of vicodin overdoses come into the ER. The worst is chronic over use, which slowly kills the liver. The last lady had to have a liver transplant. Yes you could die but not right away and not without some serious discomfort. One of the worst ways to die.

what do you do in the ER? doc? nurse?

i have been on meds that have apap in them for quite a long time, get my liver/kidney's checked every 3-6mos and they check out fine. what other life factors keep the liver/kidneys working well? since this is maintenance for what appears to be lifelong issues, should i talk to my doc about straight oxycodone instead of percocet? fwiw, i am on another constant pain med, the percocet is for "breakthrough" pain, but i really don't want to go up on my "main" med because the next higher dose i feel is too much - it takes the pain away but makes me too loopy and i would rather not be that loopy.

on average i would say i am taking ~2g of apap a day, and the days i am having exceptional tension or migraines, well those meds have apap in them too, so probably 4-5g of apap on the worst of days.

if it matters i drink a lot of caffeine free green tea - probably 1/2- 3/4 gal / day and sorry if this is tmi for others, but urine is clear & odorless for the most part.

Yea, ER docs love tramadol for that reason. They can prescribe it and not have to worry as it's non-controlled. Oddly enough, there are a minority of people who really like tramadol compared to other 'stronger' opiates/opioids. Tramadol is available without any other substance added, is non-controlled, and has a long half life (stays in your system for a long time). One of it's major metabolites hits your opiate receptors pretty good, too.

Actually, people would be suprised at what non-controlled substances are out there... some are over the counter and are very easy to get... I don't think you even have to be 18 for some. Some are just other plants.

There are plenty of non-scheduled benzos.

There is a drug that you can buy at your drug grocery store that is very closely related to meth that you can take without any preperation.

Getting morphine/codeine is painfully easy. There are other 100% legal herbs that have chemicals that are orally active and much stronger than morphine.

Plenty of legal cannabinoids.

The list goes on and on. The government keeps scheduling drugs, and people keep finding newer chemicals to stay a step ahead. One will get popular enough to get the attention of the DEA or whoever, be taken off the market, and another takes it's place.

Name a legal cannabinoid?

Regardless, we have learned the hard way that singling out a cannabinoid and putting it into a pill doesn't work very well, nowhere near the effectiveness of the actual cannabinoid combination found in marijuana.

i can definitely tell you that marinol doesn't work. at least not without taking a shitload of it (have had neither the oppotunity nor the desire to try).

Lortab is common for moderate pain like dental work.

I had an abscess recently and lortab + 800mg ibuprofen only made it bearable while i sat around waiting for the antibiotics to work. Ugh.
