Why is L4D2 lagging on my new HD6870?

I just swapped out a 5830 for a 6870. The 5830 ran L4D2 perfectly at high settings. Now with this new 6870, I get this slight lag every once in a while. It doesn't effect the game much, but still, this makes no sense. Its almost like a sudden slight drop in fps.

It mostly happens when things are calm (no zombies around, walking towards door), and not when things get graphically intense. I don't get it. Temps are fine.

I do know that with my 5830, the game automatically set itself to high settings . . with this, everything was low-to-medium and I had to manually do it. Maybe I hit some weird option, like multi-core rendering, which I know this game has issues with?

Also, in device manager, Windows 7 sees my card as HD6XXX, not a HD6870. Could this have something to do with it?

I uninstalled the previous drivers and installed Catalyst Software Suite Version 11.6. No other hardware changed. PSU is 620w.

Is it normal for the card to be listed as HD6XXX?? I have a MAC OS install that sees it as an HD6870.

i had the same issue going from a 4890 to a 5870 2gb eye infinity edition

it ended up being power, I ended up upgrading from an ultra 600watt to a corsair 750watt and now all is good

Its just a single GPU. Nothing is overclocked on my entire system. I ran through one of those online PSU calculators and with all my components it recommends about a 400w PSU. I have 620w. I would rage if I have to buy a new PSU.

Just put on the FPS through the console during gameplay, and fps does not seem to drop past 60 . . maybe 59 here and there. Even during times where it seemed a bit choppy, it remains at/around 60. WTH? Could this be a monitor issue or something?

Are you hooked up via hdmi? I have similar problems when I hook up with hdmi, so I moved back to dvi and all is well. I don't get it...perhaps some kind of input lag???

Well the 60fps from yesterday seems to have vanished and now in some levels I'm getting 40-50. WTF?? How could that even be? Does my GPU just have 'off' days or something? Damn this thing is starting to annoy me. Maybe it just isn't as good as I imagined.
