Why is it that I type an email, proof read it twice, send it and then read it again in the reply and see a typo?
Intelligently deficient comes to mind.
I learned long ago that you can't find all your own mistakes when you proofread. I remember that my PhD thesis was read carefully by at least four people (me, my wife, my supervisor, and his wife who was a university teacher of English), all of whom found things to fix. Still, AFTER it was submitted and accepted, I found a few more typos!

Why do people rip what they sew? Seems wasteful. Is it self-hate?
Because the mind automatically takes shortcuts when reading. You know what you intended to right so your brain knows how to read it before you've even read it.
