Why is it when ever I go to a resturant and order fish or steak

Good fish like halibut or steak like filet minon, it always seems smaller than the veggies and potatoe (baked or mashed) that I get. Shouldn't the main item be the largest thing. I mean really it seems for like mashed potato with halibut than halibut with mashed potato. I swear they give you less meat than people who order chicken or burgers.

It depends on how you look at it. In a properly balanced nutritious meal, the meat is not the bulk of the food, but rather one equal portion among several.

What and people who order chicken and ground beef burgers get more meat because chicken and ground beef is cheap?

You're never going to get a large cut of fillet mignon. However, I have gotten some pretty large fish fillets before.

I hate when they don't tell you how many ounces of food it is.

That said, order the porterhouse or some of the strip steaks and you probably won't have this problem :)

a filet is a small steak to begin with, if you want a monster steak order a porterhouse or a massive slice of prime rib

And they say we as Americans have portion control problems?! Pfft... I don't think so! ;)

I cannot think of a time at a restaurant over the past several years that I was disappointed in the size of my meal or ratio of sides to main entree. Many times, in "nicer" places, they use the `taters as a way to arrange the fish/meat for presentation so it might seem like there is more.

Yea, but you and iamwiz are the healthy/skinny types. Guys like me generally expect at least a pound or two of meat on our plates when dinner time comes! :)

Considuring per lb halibut cost about the same as filet mignon, I am surpised you have seen large fillets of it.

Oh PLUUUEEZEEE... You have NO idea who you are talking to here! ;) I am a freak of nature when it comes to eating. There are very few times during my normal day when I am not eating something... be it crackers, cheese, a box of cereal, etc.
I can "throw down" my weight in steak and potatoes. :p I have a hard time with food and self-control. So, I appericate folks wanting good sized portions for the money, but I also think there is too much food being doled out by most establishments in the USA. Thank God I have a crazy metabolism!

I doubt it was Halibut that I've had. What's a cheap fish per lb? Salmon perhaps?
