Why is it thread crapping if you point out how bad a deal a FS post is ?

Just curious about the rule in the For Sale forum about no thread crapping. Suppose I post that I want to sell my slightly used toothbrush for only $700 because it's a rare collectors item, and no sane person should pass the deal up.

I'm obviously a schmuck, and somebody should point that out. But due to the 'thread crapping' rule, anybody who says anything bad about that post is a thread crapper, and gets yelled at. I'm free to try to sell my used toothbrush to anybody gullible enough to buy it.

Sometimes a post is such a bad deal that it HURTS not to point it out to other people. Isn't the greater good done if you point out how bad a deal is to others, so they don't get suckered in by it ?

Just curious what you think - seems like the outright ban on any negative response to a FS post winds up hurting more than it helps...

Actually, this stops a lot of the flame wars before they even start.

If it's such a bad deal, no one will buy it, plain and simple. The seller will then reconsider, and maybe drop the price, or take the item off the market.

This is much easier than having 57 people posting "You are charging waaaaaaaay too much! I can get that item for $xx.xx!", much in the same way as 57 people always post a "repost" message, even though the first person who posted it got the point across.

Well, your opinion on an item isn't every one elses. Let whoever buys whatever buy it because its THEIR decision. If its crap, its their fault.

I'm often pulled by the same urges. There are times when I don't want the rest of the forum to be taken advantage of by some ferrengi (Thanks, Red) The UPC Bandits usually elicit a similar response from me. Basically, if somebody wants to buy at a certain price, they're welcome to. Yes, you may be able to get an item for cheaper elsewhere, but you can't go ruining someone's chances of selling something. Yes, it gets annoying if somebody is still trying to sell the same item for weeks on end for a price identical to (or even greater than) retail. Why should they get to take that chunk of the board for trying to sell that item? Who knows. If people want profit, I say head to ebay. I use the FS/FT forum to get a good, quick deal.

You're more than welcome to point something out via PM/Email, but not in the thread. In my posts, I usually say something along the lines of "If you think my prices are messed up, please let me know." More often than not, you'll get some smartass comment in return, but c'est la vie.

Let the market work. We don't need a bunch mercenaries thread crapping and making FS/T the Wild Wild West. If it is a sucky price, the seller will get PM'd or will figure it out when he hasn't sold in a week.

BINGO!! That's what capitalism is all about. If somebody is willing to pay you for your tooth brush, more power to you.

Besides, who appointed you guardian of FS traders? If you think something is a bad deal, don't buy it. It's that simple.

First of all, if someone is stupid enough to pay $700, then the guy who sold it should get a pat on the back for good marketing (as long as he described it accurately). Second of all, nobody is stupid enough to buy a toothbrush for $700. If someone needs or wants an item badly enough, they'll pay what the seller is asking. As long as both the seller and buyer are happy, it's all gravy!

That is pretty much the definition of thread crapping in the fs/ft board, if you think the deal sucks then PM the seller and tell them.

Yeah like anybody ever overpays for anything there!! Trust me, most traders now the true value of the item for sale and usually offer 50 cents on the dollar. If someones item is priced fairly he'll be lucky to sell it. If it's priced high it will surely die a lonely death. I've seen what happens when thread crapping is allowed at For Sale Forums and it's not good

Unfortunately true. I've tried to sell stuff that's a month or two old for 20-30 bucks less than the lowest price on Pricewatch, and most of time the only responses you get are people offering you half of what the item is worth in cash or a bunch of worthless hardware in trade.
