Why is it that when one makes a joke that is funny to others, it doesn't seem entirely that funny to the one making the joke? And when you make a joke that is funny to you, most of the time nobody is laughing? Is laughing at your own joke really a bad thing? Is laughing at your own joke killing it? Bleh.

Most of the fun out of a joke comes because it's NEW...if you know it already the fun decreases exponentially the more times you hear it... ;)

I have the same problem. The stupid things I say people think are funny, and the funny things I say people think are stupid or just meh

What's funny is when you tell a joke or story and you know it's not going so well, so you have to end it with, "....and it was really funny." It's a perfect example of self-evident failure, even though most people don't want to admit it.

Simple. You need new friends.

Maybe my friends and I are funnier than you and your friends(quite probably, I think I'm hillarious and I don't really hang out with many with bad senses of humor), but usually when someone is trying to be funny, everyone is laughing.
No one actually tells "jokes" though, the natural course of our conversations leads to much commedy and thus much laughter.

I laugh a few times per day about nothing, so I don't think I'm going to be very helpful to your thread.........

I think...

there should be a scientific research team assigned to solving that problem, I have the same issue. I can remember many times where I said something stupid and friends/co-workers thought it was hilarious, so then when I think they're ready for my a material I can't get the big laughs.

Now that I think about it, both. It's almost as if they can detect that you're trying to be funny, I guess when you say something funny in an albiet serious tone/like you mean it, I guess it becomes funny? Most things people find funny is when I'm ragging on/ranting about something, making it completely unintentional and frustrating...
