Why is it that New CD's/DVD's only come out on Tuesday's ???

thatsright

Long time ago I noticed that most digital media (Music, movies, etc.) are released only on Tuesday here in the USA. Does the RIAA/MPAA dictate that Tuesday is 'THE' day that this happens. Is there some other cartel out there that dictates these release dates. Once in a while I'll see a nifty band that will release a CD on Friday or Wed. or something, but this is like only 0.0000000001% of the time. Two years ago I pre-ordered Season 1 of The Simpson's on DVD from Amazon and I got it the Friday before it was supposed to come out that Tuesday, which was a bit odd?

Why in the hell am I thinking about this sooo much. I dunno, this is the Off Topic forum right?

I always figured it was shipping.

Stuff is sent out in advance, but might not reach some of the more extreme or remote locations by the end of hte week that it's sent out. Likely it'd arrive on the monday, and having it out on tuesdays gives the staff enough time to shelve it and get it registered in inventory. Thus tuesday is the earliest day that a distributer would KNOW that an item could be in stores.

The linked answer of Nielsen ratings does make sense, too.

BTW, earliest I ever got a DVD before official release date was 10 days 😀
