Why is it that my dvd playback isn't working anymore?

Why is it that my dvd playback isn't working anymore?
It was fine yesterday, then holia, no sound now.

I'm using the speaker on my Viewsonic VX2025vm right now (lame I know, getting ifi 2.1 later). It works fine on music, games, etc. I just can't figure out why it's not working on a dvd that was working yesterday. The playback is smooth as always, but no sound. Does anyone know why this is happening and perhaps point me into the rigth direction? THanks

Well I used to have VLC but I'm too lazy to download it now, since I rarely watch files directly associated to it. I wonder what's wrong, since it was working in WMP yesterday and it suddenly doesn't work anymore.

As if you could possibly have any useful inputs other than blabbing like this.

Um, I do. But I like Astrallite's suggestion as a starting point to finding out if its hardware or software. So either do it or don't waste people's time.

Ok, sorry for my rudeness. I tried it out, no sound either. That pops a light bolb. Any further suggestions?

Do you have a codec pack installed. If not, then install K-lite codec pack. If you do, uninstall it and then reinstall the latest version.

In case you're misunderstanding my situation, it was working perfectly the day before. I have DivX codec installed in case you're wondering.

I am not misunderstanding your situation. Codecs can get messed up or deleted.
