I question the value of AA when the resolution gets to be UXGA or higher, honestly. You've got a point, of course. AF does definitely give a better visual experience at any resolution. AA, though, was invented a long time ago to deal with smoothing issues on VERY low-res monitors.

I would never gripe at someone because they wanted to spend $600 on a high-end graphics card to play their games. I also don't see the sense in someone plunking down money for two 6600GTs, plus the extra money for an SLI motherboard, if they could have a comparable or better single card for the price. However, buying a 6600GT is not stupid. It's by far the best value on the market right now for video cards-- with the nonexistent X800XL running a close second, if it shows up in the next three months. Buying an SLI motherboard is also not stupid; it provides a cheap upgrade path.

I just don't understand why everybody and their brother hates SLI. It's my really honest opinion that building your own computer is undergoing a boom right now, lots of newbies like me are putting together PCIe systems (many with SLI capability), and lots of people are envious, which is dumb. (Not you, nick-- but lots of people.) Sheesh, it's just a big game of leapfrog. Why give a rat's ass what someone else chooses to buy?

Why does everyone reply agreeing with the OP when it is clearly stated by many posters that 6800gt PCI-e CAN NOT be found RIGHT NOW for reasonable prices -- people saying they are $320 -- You are wrong --- no more people saying 6800gt > 6600gt SLI --- yes we KNOW already -- but if you're rich , and want SLI , 6600gt may be the only option right now

At 1280x1024 which my monitor is set at I don't think 6600Gt's will have any problem.

Right now just finding a 6800GT PCIE at MSRP is a bargain. I wanna see some linkage real quick if that 320 argument is gonn a hold any water. And not just so I can snap them up.

A 6800 plain in PCI-E is around $320 and seems to be readily available.

Cheapest PCI-e 6800GT I've found on the search engines is $421 and it's backordered! MSRP is around $399 so I don't see any dealers selling them for less, especially when they're still so rare. Nvidia expects shortages in the pci-e 6800 line until 3rd quarter 2005.

I agree, SLI is simply another computer option. With so many things you can now build, SLI just becomes another way to design your system.
