Why is it that certain smells can leave me with a headache?

Like the smell of fish being fried (If you're Filipino then you know which fish I'm talking about), and other various stink smells. It will end up giving me a headache if I smell it for too long. How does stankness equate to a headache?

i used to get migraines from the smell of smoke. or the smell made it worse. either way, i dunno why.

of course some food stinks are awful too.

AFAIK it's a manifestation of an allergy. The smell of onions gives me a bad headache, but if I accidently eat them, then I get a migraine and accelerated bowel schedules. A lot of mold allergies (typically you don't really smell mold, but you still inhale the spores) are manifested as headaches and fatigue.
