This thread reminds me of a 60 Minutes spot 2 weeks ago about a straight-A white girl with umpteen academic activities was rejected from the college she wanted to go to, while a black student who admittedly had no extracurriculars and a 2.2 GPA got into the same school the same year.
I'm all for fair treatment. This is NOT fair treatment. This school in question assigns points in going over the application. You get 20 points for being a minority.

Honestly, I'm offended for the people who receive these "benefits." Instead of saying "You are self-capable, you can do this," they are pretty much saying "You're 20 marks less than a white person is, so we'll give you a 20-mark head start since you can't keep up on your own....."

If only it were so simply, it would be workable. The problem is that it's often 5 well-qualified whites being passed up in favor of 5 well-unqualified nonwhites.

Equality is about equality. Yes, when disparity exists, the majority group will feel slighted at first. That's to be expected. The problem is that equality is not achieved by tipping the balance the other way. The current "system" serves only to preserve a painful history of racism that in truth, no amount of reparations or legislation can heal.
Only the passing of time and education can heal these wounds, and by constantly reopening them or keeping them open, we're only slowing the process.

With how fast a lot of the minority populations are growing now, I don't think I'd call whites a majority. We may have a large base percentage wise, but I would gander that if you added together every minority group, it would probably equal half of the nations population, if not more. The way things are moving in the southwest right now, whites are about to (if not already) become the minority and hispanics the majority, and the same will happen in other areas of the country most likely.

The idea of a WHITE race is fictitious and asinine. The truth is that whites are a huge conglomeration of disimilar people, merely labelled white by the census takers for convenience. Why is it that we classify such a variant group as one large entity when almost no ethnicity in the "white" label matches another?

I also do not like how its okay for the feds to give so called blacks and hispanic minorities some special protections yet they deny them to asians and whites. The feds must think asians and whites have some superior genetic disposotion to earn money. About a month ago there was alot of trial balloons about paying the descendants of slaves some sort of reparation as a token of penance for the United States participation in slavery. What a crock of total garbage to pay someone who descended from an illegal immigrant who was trafficked to the United States as a laborer for private plantations outside the pre-existing government's control. Slavery was neither illegal nor uncommon during that period (actually all the way back to biblical times), but now suddenly we need to reparate every descendant of slavery because of the US's change of heart in the late 1800's?

Its time that census takers should add a column for whites and asians to label their ancestries as "superior beings" and file for special exemptions, too! After all, these two groups have been saddled with more taxes and denied more rights for longer than the slave trade ever existed in the United States of America! Lets give bald guys and boobless women some sort of tax shelter for surgery because statistics show that these two groups earn far less than men with great hair and women with great busts! Next we can justify some sort of tax shelter for people that are fat because they are unfairly penalized by the architects of public accomodations, namely stadiums seats and toilets. I am just being sarcastic here, not that its a serious proposal. The idea that anybody needs help to overcome some prejudice in the U.S. is totally nonsensical and un-American.

Next time some lazy SOB wants a tax exemption for something then I propose we exile them to Liberia where they'll more appreciate the idea of fair play.

That's because the percentages of getting a scholarship are so in favor of a white person getting it, strictly based on the size of the white population. Basically, there are so many white applicants compared to black that it would be extremely hard for a black person to get a scholarship. That's not even assuming the other races that would be competing.
