Why is it that a lot of foreign exchange students from asia

I've noticed a lot about how the penmanship of a foreign exchange student from asia (chinese, koreans, japanese, etc.) would be way better than a lot of people. Sometimes even better than the female penmanship which are almost always better than the males...

Why is this? 😕

*Inspired by the Huang Zhe Ren thread*

For the older generation, it was drilled into them in class...don't know about the current students. I'm sure the parents of most of the Asian ATOTers have great penmanship. My parents' print handwriting are very similar to one another too.

they dont use their primary writing hand until its only function is back and forth because they dont have blonds

Thats 2nd grade kanji, when I was in elementry school 15 years ago the we learned the alphabet in 5th grade. When I had English class in junior high (I believe they've pushed beggining English to 5th grade), if the teacher couldn't read your handwriting you failed. No ifs, buts or retests. You better print clearly if you want to graduate.

Because they're being taught how to write while kids in the US are being taught that everyone's a winner, and that their self esteem matters more than anything else.

you are 3-4 times smarter than me.

Now add like 20 more kanji symbols ...
Japanese I ftw.

japanese my ass. kanji is just chinese and i know most of it.

They have a better reinforcement scheme there. Here, we simply yell at the teacher for our kids getting bad grades.

Because penmanship is stupid.

Seriously... if its anything important, it will be typed. Other than that, its just my own notes, which only I have to understand. I am more than capable of understanding my own scribble.

He's pretty right on I think. We as a society are become pussies. We are letting the minority dictate how things should be. I've heard from more people that the whole no child left behind thing is BS and only hurts education, than I've heard people supporting it.

I hate the attitude that they try to push that everyone is a winner. You can't have winners without loosers.

When my daughter starts school and does poorly it's her own fault. I'll motive her to do better but I won't do what some parents do and say it's ok you did your best, you're still smart in my book.
But if she does good then it's because she cares and that we as parents have instilled in her that learning and doing well in school is how you do better in life, which in turn leads to a happier life.
Red Forman had child raising right, if your kid does something dumb or fails a test, it's ok
to call them a dumb ass.

I think when she does start going to school I'm going to raise all kinds of hell though.
When I get forms in English and Spanish I'm going to complain and say I'm offened that I pay taxes to the school system and have to pay to have material printed in a FOREIGN language. Then if the teacher ever tells me everyone is a winner I'm going to have a field day there. That will put the precedent down to my kid that Dad is a little nuts and will do stuff to embarass you so you better do good in school so he doesn't have to come back up here.
