I guess the first question should have been what is the sound card connected to.
I had to go in and disable audio on 1 of my monitors, headset is a PITA for switching between speakers and mic headset in Blizzard game. But my discrete sound is connected to M-Audio Studiophile LX4 with sub providing powered amp. Had to go to Guitar Center to get the cables needed. But this was also before Amazon was a thing.

The original is a sound "card" built into the motherboard, and I installed the drivers, but they are only supposed to work with Win 10. They DID before I upgraded. But after only this "nvidia" sound showed in device manager. Once I got this adapter, it worked.

Not a solution I would've guessed would work but that's really interesting. How is it connected exactly? HDMI cable from your Nvidia card goes into this and then another HDMI cable from adapter to monitor and audio cable from adapter to your speakers?
